Hello... I can't tell you how annoying fixing this problem has been.

Of course, I am sure that you have dealt with this many many times. I have attempted to find and follow every manual removal solution that I have been able to find on the internet... this is a last resort.

I believe that I have removed the spyware (at least the bulk of it...) but I still have the stupid flashing (Accessibility/Red Cancel Sign) icon flashing in my system tray.

I have removed all of the known .dll/.exe files that I have seen on the manual removal instructions littering the internet and I have also run FixSpyFalcon.reg and rebooted in safe mode then running smitRem. I have downloaded PrevX1R and run this several times, though I have never run it in safe mode...

I am no longer getting pop-ups and my browser extensions seem to be clean. I used startuplist and found several more (dead) references to SpyFalcon but that didn't help.

Here may be a good bit of information: When I booted in safe mode and logged in as administrator, the system tray icon did NOT load, but when I logged in (still in safe mode) to my usual user name, it did load.

Any help that you all can give me in getting rid of this carp** will be very very much appreciated. Appending most current HJT and smitRem log to this post.

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Running the Clean

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

Posted Image

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Thanks for replying,

I had found one of your posts saying the exact same thing before you replied here but after I originally posted.

I performed all of the actions in the order you stated and exactly as stated.

I saved my logs, and will append them after this... there was one more file that I didn't find before that it found but the stupid accessability system tray icon simply will not go away

I assure you I updated everything and followed your directions very precisely...

I thank you very much for any help that you can provide.

You appear to have the latest infection from our friends Spyaxe.
Lets see if Spy Sweeper will find it.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system. If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so immediately. This is a necessary step to kill the infection!

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HJT log as well as the Resullts from Spy Sweeper file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

The forum is run by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

Hello again LDTate, again thank you very much for helping me out with this problem...

here are the requested logs... the SpySweeper caught a few things and attempted to remove a "rootkit" but the accessability icon is still flashing away in the system tray. The attempted removal involved the deletion of two files that seem to keep popping up in the F:\Recycled\Norton Protected Files\ folder... I have removed them repeatedly with prevx1 and now with spysweeper (which deleted them before bootup)

I have found the problem... and there is (since May 3) a new version of smitRem to fix it... it was updated late yesterday (May 5)... so if you have people that have the same problem that I had (and downloaded smitRem before late May 5, you might want to advise them to redownload smitRem.

I was carefully analyzing pretty much every single .dll that I found in the report because I was almost positive that the nagging system tray handicap/red circle with a slash had to be invoked through explorer (deduced from killing the explorer process and watching the icon pop up in different places on the sys tray while other icons popped up in the same place) and I found in the old smitRem log file the lines:

SrchSTS.exe by S!Ri
Search SharedTaskScheduler's .dll

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler]
"{35a88e51-b53d-43e9-b8a7-75d4c31b4676}"="Register LogWare"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{35a88e51-b53d-43e9-b8a7-75d4c31b4676}\InProcServer32]
@="F:\WINDOWS\system32\reglogs.dll"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID\{35a88e51-b53d-43e9-b8a7-75d4c31b4676}\InProcServer32]
@="F:\WINDOWS\system32\reglogs.dll"

^^ this looked to be a little bit suspicious... and this was compounded when I plugged "reglogs.dll" in google and retrieved zero results. Anyways... I was able to kill the process by unregistering reglogs.dll, but then I looked on the smitRem website and found that had been updated in the last couple of days, so instead of deleting the file I just ran smitRem in safe mode again and it deleted some reg keys and the file... PRESTO... NO MORE ICON :D

I thank you so much for your help, and I hope that this information will benefit other sufferers of this stupid stupid stupid stupid software. Sites like these are precious, and you are absolutely commendable for doing your part in keeping this place running.

I have uninstalled all of the trial software. In case you have any more suggestions for me... I will post a fresh HJT log after I reboot.

If you dont have these programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
