Hi. I've read all the rules and I hope that I have this correct as I need some help please. Ewido scans tell me I have Trojan.Pakes on my computer. Spyware Doctor tells me I have 63 infections but Trojan.Pakes is NOT one of them. Norton Internet Security 2006 says I have no infections at all. Kaspersky on line scanner says I have no infections at all. Trojan Remover says there are no infections either...... Ok, so who do I believe ?? Which one of the software is correct ?? If I post the hijack this log can anyone help me to find out if there is anything on my computer please. Thanks, Nick

Welcome to the forum

The only thing that "jumps" out at me in the log is this entry:

I'd suggest you do this:

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!
Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmmri.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmmri.exe

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmmri.exe <--- file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread.

P.S.

The reason the programs differ in the number of "infections" may be because of what they consider an "infection" to be.

If Spyware Doctor is counting tracking cookies as an "infection", that could be why the count is so high with that program.

I don't think any of the other programs you mentioned look for tracking cookies.

Are you experiencing pop-ups or re-directs at this time?

Hi. Thanks for the help. I'll do that in a few minutes. But my problem is re-direction. Whenever I search for something in Google, my first click on any subject found takes me to another site, and the site is never the same. Its not just Google, but any first click site re-directs me.

Looks good!!! Still getting "redirects"? It sounds like a "Wareout" infection, except you don't have all the telltale signs in the log. The file you deleted fits the description, but the other things we look for aren't present. If you're still getting "redirects", I can post the "fix" for a "Wareout" infection.

HEY.......FANTASTIC.........no more re-diredtions at all Thanks you so much. Ewido was saying that this infection was Trojan.Pakes but I have just run Ewido again and it has come up clean !! Out of interest, if you can post the fix for the wareout infetion I can save it and use it if I get hit again. Ok..............I admit it !!!! I have no idea what "017" lines are !! Is there a short explanation ?? I have 2 anti hijackers working so perhaps thats the reason I wasnt hijacked ! Nick
