I have BestSucurityGuide.com hijacking my internet explorer when I first open it. I ran Lavasoft AdAware but this didn't help. I am using AVG and it picked up Trojan Horse Downloader.Zlob.AFD. It supposedly healed the files infected. The file infected was called Media codec -v4.55.exe. This was something that my husband downloaded to his desktop, possibly with something else.

Also, want to know if anyone knows how to block access to certain web sites from Mozilla Firefox.

Please help. Sick of cleaning up pc after husband.

Thanks!

Hello AMY and welcome to TomCoyote forum. You have several problems including a marker for the Smitfraud trojan. My suggestion would be to keep this computer offline as much as possible except when dealing with the issues. These infections will attract others. If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, we will start like this.

1) You are running HJT.exe from a .zip file in a Temporary Directory. This is unsafe as we will have no backups. That is why you received this message when you used HJT: http://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif
Please use the information in the following link to place HJT in a permanent, safe folder, I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

2) Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other option until you are directed to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
