I was under the impression that the BSOD was pretty much destroyed when Windows XP came out, which is why I am very curious to know what in the hell my comp swallowed that brought this up. I recieved the "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage"…… message and here is the technical info that it listed.
STOP - 0X0000008E ( OXC0000005, 0XBF11838D, 0X9DED9A4C, OX00000000 )
ialmdd5.DLL - Address BF11838D Base at BF077000, Date Stamp 43503BC6
Any ideas on what I did or what in the hell my comp is smokin?
Have you installed new RAM or a new Graphics Card Recently.
Are you overclocking?
How's the heat situation? Blow out the dust bunnies and make sure your fans are running well, especially if you have a heatsink fan on your video card.
The error refers to "memory" meaning RAM.
If you have two or more chips, remove all but one and reboot.
If problem does not re-occur, then one of the "removed" RAM sticks may be bad.
Substitute by running one stick at a time, until you've given each RAM stick a test drive by itself.
If one stick causes the problem you've got a solution.
Regarding Video Card…. Check in device manager for yellow or red warnings.
Check the manufacturer's site for possible updates to the vid card driver.
(note: Instead of "updating" the driver, you may benefit from uninstalling the Vid driver and reinstalling the same one)
Do you have another Video Card that is compatible with your system.
If so, you could substitute it to see if the problem continues or goes away.
Best Regards
Edit: Do you have Windows Updates current?
There is a video accelleration issue resolved by a patch that came out in Oct 2005. Hopefully you've been updating all along and have that and other current updates.
