Hello,
My dad was using my machine for online dating, and he clicks on all the pop-ups you shouldn't. I ran spybot, adaware, symantec antivirus but I think that explorer is hijacked. I get a lot of redirects.

Also, on running hijack this, I obtained the following error:
----------------------------------------------------------
An unexpected error has occurred at procedure: modMain_CheckOther1Item()
Error #5 - Invalid procedure call or argument

Please email me at merijn@spywareinfo.com, reporting the following:
* What you were trying to fix when the error occurred, if applicable
* How you can reproduce the error
* A complete HijackThis scan log, if possible

Windows version: Windows NT 5.01.2600
MSIE version: 6.0.2900.2180
HijackThis version: 1.99.1

This message has been copied to your clipboard.
Click OK to continue the rest of the scan.

Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum. Sorry about the wait, the logs are many and the volunteers are few. Your Dad is hijacked by some nasty folks in the Ukraine, see this: http://whois.domaint...m/85.255.114.46
We can remove it but in order to do it properly, I must see the HJT log in Normal Mode with everything enabled in MSConfig. Post the new log and I will respond with directions as soon as possible after that. Stay in this same topic by using Add Reply, DO NOT start a New Topic.

Thanks...pskelley

Hello,
I assume by NORMAL mode, you mean without being in safe mode. Here is the result of the log, and thank you for your time. I appreciate it.

Thanks for returning your information. In safe mode only what is needed to run the system is started, if it is not started, HJT can not see it. If HJT can not see it, I can't see it. The same thing would apply to MSConfig running in Selective Startup. This is for your information and thanks.

1) This looks ok, but please assure me this is a valid service in your next post: Virtual Com Port Service (C:\WINDOWS\system32\ncsvc.exe).

2) TeaTimer may block the changes we must make, use this information and turn it off until you are done: http://russelltexas....re/teatimer.htm

Thanks to LonnyRJones, Swandog46, AutoDad and any others who helped with this fix.
Follow the directions carefully if you want it to work.

3) You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingc.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

(hold those logs until we complete the instructions)

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Thank you, very much. Did it all.. Here are the logs:

What about this information?

1) This looks ok, but please assure me this is a valid service in your next post: Virtual Com Port Service (C:\WINDOWS\system32\ncsvc.exe).

Please check before you post to make sure you are not missing anything. It requires more of both of our time if you do not...thanks.

Besides the item I was unsure of, your HJT log is clean. Good job with the Wareout fix
Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://boards.cexx.o...topic.php?t=957
http://russelltexas....re/allclear.htm
http://forum.malware...wtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingc...topict2520.html
http://cybercoyote.o...not-admin.shtml

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

If C:\WINDOWS\system32\ncsvc.exe is valid, no need to post again. Make sure you read and complete all of the instructions I just posted so you and Dad can avoid this happening again.

Thanks...pskelley

ncsvc.exe is okay. My wife installed it as part of her VPN for work. Juniper networks neoterrace... Thank you for all your help and guidance. I've not had computer trouble as yet.
