I don't know if this is the right place but I keep crashing, mostly while the computer is just sitting. I've run every registry/bug fixer, etc. I can get my hands on and the only thing I can find is one fixer tells me 'Inprocserver32' is corrupt. The few times I see something in the diskcheck, it is always something different. Webroot spysweeper was causing some of it but when I shut off the service, it still crashes for a different reason. Is there some utility to install that will tell me why it crashes when it does? It's not heat or power or new hardware. Windows XP Pro. 1 Gig of memory and plenty of HD space. I humbly ask for someones assistance. Thanks. Soja

Have you already fixed your problem?

You state: It's not heat or power or new hardware.

Of course you would know if you had new hardware, but I do not know how you've ruled out the other two possibilities. Can you expand on this?

There is a Spyware (of high risk) that creates multiple bogus copies of 'Inprocserver32'.

If you happen to be one of the "lucky ones" who have this infection, you may actually be able to uninstall it manually. (happy day if that turns out to be true for you.)

in your Windows Explorer, set Tools - Folder Options - to view hidden and system files.
navigate to %System%\fonts\system\explorer\mru\
At that location look for: "nl.exe" (without the quotation marks)
If you find nl.exe, double-click on it and allow it to go through the "uninstall" protocol.

If you don't find, nl.exe, that doesn't mean you don't have the spyware infection, only that the version you have doesn't have a simple uninstall option.

Fortunately, this particular malware with various names but most often named Spyware.IamBigBrother can be removed with Symantec's Norton Virus Scan. And since it has been around since 2004, it will most likely be removed with any good anti-virus that is currently updated.

What AntiVirus utility do you have installed on your machine?
Update it. Run it. Allow it to remove/delete/fix/ or quarantine what it finds.
If you don't have an anti virus installed, and you can get onto the internet with this machine, go to:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com and run the free online scan.

Now suppose you do not have the spyware on your machine, but still have a problem with 'Inprocserver32'

It is possible for system files to become corrupted in other ways.
Win XP Pro has a useful utility called System File Checker.
It will scan your System files to identify any missing or corrupt files.
Run it.

To run System File Checker, click:
Start - Run - (type) sfc /scannow

Please post back with your progress.

Best Regards
