Hello phoenixarizona,

1. Download roguescanfix.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick roguescanfix.exe to install.
This will create a new folder on your desktop called roguescanfix.
Do not use this yet!

2. Run HijackThis and check the following entry:O2 - BHO: Nothing - {b0398eca-0bcd-4645-8261-5e9dc70248d0} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp830A.tmp (file missing)
Close all open windows EXCEPT HIJACKTHIS and click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

3. Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
4. Open the roguescanfix folder and click: Run.bat
This tool needs internet connection so it can download an additional file to let the tool work properly.
If your firewall gives an alert, allow it instead of blocking it.
Let the tool perform its job.
The icons will disappear temporarely from your desktop, and reappear. This is normal.
Wait until the message Completed script execution is displayed, and click OK.
Click Exit to close down bfu.
Finally: click OK to start the Spyfalcon and/or Spywarequake uninstaller (if an unistaller is still found), and click uninstall.
WARNING: You will be asked to reboot your computer. Wait until the uninstallers did their job before clicking YES.

5. Please run an onlinescan with panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

6. Post the contents of the Panda scan report (or the Bitdefender log) in your next reply along with a new HijackThis Log,
by using Add Reply.

Greetings,
Thunder

Hello phoenixarizona,

Let's do some more cleaning up:

1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Software, and by using Add/Remove programs remove if found:New.net or NewDotNet
It may not be present in the Software list.
If it isn't, see if, using Windows Explorer, you can find an uninstaller in the folder C:\Program Files\NewDotNet. The uninstaller will be called uninstallX_XX.exe, where the X's stands for numbers.
If not, look in the C:\Windows or C:\Winnt, there it will be called NDNuninstallX_XX.exe

If you still haven't found it, you can use this uninstaller: uninstall6_90.exe.
After removal, you may be prompted to reboot. Please reboot even if not prompted.
However, before using this last means, please download WinsockXPFix and LSP-Fix.
If you can not connect to the Internet after removing New.net, please run the WinsockXPFix program I had you download earlier.
If you still can not connect to the Internet, please run the LSP-Fix program, and click on the finish button. Reboot and you should be able to get back on..

2. Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Don't use it yet.
DO NOT RUN IT YET!

3. Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido anti-malware:
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Close ewido. DO NOT RUN IT YET.
4. Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and tap F8 before WinXP starts to load and choose Safe Mode.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear.
Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.

5. Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running.
Place a check against each of the following if still present:O2 - BHO: Nothing - {b0398eca-0bcd-4645-8261-5e9dc70248d0} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp1059.tmp
Click Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

6. Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; I need that log afterwards.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

7. Run Ewido anti-malware:
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
    • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
      # This means you will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
      # If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
      # DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
      # If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Save it to your Desktop.
8. Restart your computer in Normal Mode.

9. Please post the contents of C:\rapport.txt and a new HijackThis log,
as well as the log from ewido.

Greetings,
Thunder

Hi...sorry for delay in replying....only get the chance to try everything when i get home from work. I have had a few problems when it got to running the EWIDO software...the scan gets to 99.9% and then it crashes...it has happened 4 times now. There are always a lot of cydoor programmes at this point and whether i click 'remove' or 'none', it still crashes.

For what it's worth here are the rapport log and the new hijackthis log....thanks again

Hello phoenixarizona,

Your log looks clean now. ;)

Regarding that problem with ewido,
it might be a good idea to install, update and run
Spybot-Search & Destroy, to remove the bulk of spy- and adware first.
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

Finally, another Panda scan should trace any leftovers.
Please post the result log here, so we can check if anything remains.

Greetings,
Thunder

Hello phoenixarizona,

Just a few leftovers to clean up :

Hacktool:HackTool/EvID Not disinfected C:\Program Files\PPLive TV\SynaLiveSetup.exe[EvID4226Patch.exe] is a false positive, no need to worry about that one.

You can delete the SmitfraudFix folder from your Desktop now.

2. Download KillBox and unzip it to your desktop.

Open Killbox and select the Delete on reboot option.
Copy and paste the following text (in bold) to the field labeled "Full path of file to delete":C:\Documents and Settings\Iain\Local Settings\Temp\is-ECKAA.tmp\NNTRDA638.EXE
C:\Program Files\Computer Problems\backups\backup-20060503-201505-289.dll
C:\Program Files\Computer Problems\uninstall6_90.exe
C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall6_98.exe
C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall7_14.exe
C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall7_22.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\regperf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ustart.exe

Press the Delete button (the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it).
A first dialog box will ask if you want to delete the file on reboot, press the YES button.
A second dialog box will ask you if you want to REBOOT now. Press the YES button.
Your computer will reboot.

And that should have taken care of your problems. ;)
Let me know if anything else still shows up.

Greetings,
Thunder

Hello phoenixarizona,

As I explained, you don't need to worry about SynaLiveSetup.exe

The other files are now contained, as you can see from their location, in the backup folder of !KillBox.
You can delete !KillBox from your Desktop. Make sure to empty the Recycle bin. ;)

-----------------

Below I have included some recommendations on how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously ; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

1. Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ on a regulare basis and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer.
This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

2. Make sure to keep your antispyware programs up-to-date and to run them regularly[/color][/b], as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3. Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is very good and more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has a built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) . If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:

Hopefully this should take care of your problems!
