Well, here goes.

I have had problems with Norton for the last month. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall 3 times and it still doesn't function. I get errors all the time about ccapp. Stuff just randomly shuts down and I can't run Live Update for Norton. When I try to use their self fix my computer tells me I don't haev ActiveX controls??? I even tried their method of lowering security settings to no avail. I ran Spybot and got nothing. I ran Ad Aware and got 18 hits. Can't do Panda because it won't do anything when I go there and try to scan. Here is my log. Thanks in advance for all the help.

hi Mathlete,

nothing really jumps out of your log. if your norton av is functional, try running it in SAFEMODE, even if it hasnt been updated in awhile.
to reach safe mode: tap the f8 key during a computer restart, chose the safe mode option. once in safe mode try running norton, afterwards reboot normally.
no point in spending alot of time on it. uninstall norton/reboot once and install, update and scan withone of these:

Ok Ty for the review. This is the fourth time in the last month that I am uinstalling Norton. I keep getting an error that says "Norton system files corrupt or missing. Uninstall and reinstall NOrton," but after I do that, I get the same message. I will try it with one of the suggested applications. Ty once again.

I unstalled Norton and installed avast but I am still having a few problems. Well here you go: #1. When I start my computer (Win 98) I get an error about the registry and some file being missing. It then says C:\Progra~1\SYMANTEC\SYMEVNT.386. If I press a key, I can continue. It started right after I uninstalled Norton for the fourth time. How do stop this from happening? #2. Every time I restart my computer it says that hpodev07 will be shut down. What is that? #3. If I try to use HP's auto detect or when I tried to use Norton's Fiix it tool it said something to the effect of: 1. You clicked no on the previous button the internet conection was interrupted 2. Your internet security options are set to disable downloading or scripting of activeX components 3. blah blah blah Problem is that I have all settings set to enable because I have tried everything else. No virus because I show a clean Hijack This log. Ad-Aware, Sbybot, Avast all come up negative. If this is getting too far off-topic you can move the thread. TY
