hello thanks to other peoples posts here which helped me fathom out how to sort this problem out ive managed to clean up to a degree the mess my computer was in.im just returning to the forum to offer what little knowlege i have to give something back.this post is mainly centred at newbies like myself. if you are also going round in circles with the same problem heres what solved mine. 1..download highjack this, registry mechanic, adware 6,spybot search and destroy, spyware blaster, window washer 5,and cw shredder 2...disable internet conection first and antivirus 3...search for three files hcet.exe...this is usually in your user temp , all user temp and most importantly in the admin temp or profile.you need to delete these files as on reboot they keep installing and you end up running in circles. 4...run all the relevent programs you have downloaded,if they find spyware to do with each other make sure you leave them but delete everything else they find.also dont select to disable home page access as this doesnt stop the hijack files from changing it just YOU. 5...reboot and download as many windows critical updates you can ( boring but neccersary) especially service pack 1a. 6...you were most probably hijacked from warez sites when you were searching for cracks and serials..i was and unfortunately now im clean until service pack 2 comes out, some of the crack sites are clever fuckers and reinfect you with there homepage search carp**.and you have to do the above again, but hey if you dont pay for your programs you cant moan. hcet.exe was the main culprit but the above programs find others you will have to take note your self as they are many its just they couldnt stop this one at all. i hope this helps some of you ..............phil
