Hi,

I've been having some problems with viruses for the past few days. There are three main problems, probably all related:

A flashing green/red icon in my system tray, what looks like a green wheelchair icon to a red circle with a line going through it - when I hover over it with my mouse, it says "Virus Alert!". It's pretty annoying. I've ran AVG Virus scan a few times, which keeps finding various viruses and says it deletes them when I move them to the vault, but apparently they're not being fully deleted.

A pop-up box in my lower right hand corner of the screen, just above the taskbar -
"Your Computer is Infected!
Critical System Error!
System detected virus activites.
They may cause critical system
failure. Please, use antimalware
software to clean and protect your
system from parasite programs.
Click here to get all available
software."
I haven't clicked on it, but I can onyl imagine it'd do more bad than good.

Periodically, AVG Anti-Virus pop-up alerts appear, saying that a "dialer.dbl" has been detected. Everytime it pops up I click on "Move to vault", which is supposed to delete the file, but it doesn't seem to stop it from reappearing every few mins.

Here's a log file from Hijack This:

I also found a similar problem to my own on this website - but I didn't want to take any actions until I verified that i have the same problem.

I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Jws] C:\Documents and Settings\Colin\My Documents\?racle\services.exe

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winwil32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winwil32.dll

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete these Files if listed:
C:\PROGRA~1\MBOLS~1\dvdplay.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winwil32.dll

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

It's still exactly the same as it was. There were a few entries missing from the ones you told me to delete in the HijackThis scan,

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: Nothing - {edbf1bc8-39ab-48eb-a0a9-c75078eb7c8e} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp722D.tmp (file missing)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winwil32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winwil32.dll

This file was also missing:
C:\PROGRA~1\MBOLS~1\dvdplay.exe

And I couldn't delete this file:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winwil32.dll

Here's my hijackthis log:

Download Avenger by Swandog, and unzip it to your desktop or somewhere you can find it. (Do not run it yet).
http://swandog46.gee...com/avenger.zip

Note: This program is for use on Windows XP 32 bit systems only, and must be run from an account with Administor priviledges. If yours is a 64 bit version, do not use it, let me know.

Open a Notepad file by clicking Start > Run and typing Notepad.exe in the box, click OK.

Click Format, and ensure Word Wrap is unchecked.

Copy and Paste all the text inside the box below into Notepad.

Now save the file as RemoveFiles.txt in a location where you can find it.

Files to delete:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winwil32.dll

Registry values to delete:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify | winwil32.dll

Start Avenger by double clicking on Avenger.exe.

Check Load script from file:

Click on the folder symbol below and to the right, and browse to RemoveFiles.txt.

Double click it to enter it into Avenger.

Click the green traffic light symbol.

You will be asked if you want to execute the script, answer Yes.

At this point you may get prompts from your protection systems, allow them please.

Avenger will set itself up to run the next time you re-boot, and will prompt you to re-start immediately.

Answer Yes, and allow your computer to re-boot.

Upon re-boot a command window will briefly appear on screen (this is normal).

A Notepad text file will be created C:\avenger.txt.

Copy and Paste it into your next post please, along with a new HJT log.

The forum is run by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

A flashing green/red icon in my system tray, what looks like a green wheelchair icon to a red circle with a line going through it

You still have this?

I suggest you do this:

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O16 - DPF: {0D6709DD-4ED8-40CA-B459-2757AEEF7BEE} (Dldrv2 Control) - http://download.giga...bject/Dldrv.ocx

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winwil32 - winwil32.dll (file missing)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Empty Recycle Bin.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, click on the Scanner run a full scan and let it clean everything it finds. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Thanks again for your help so far.

the icon in the taskbar and the pop-up above the task bar.

What exactly does it say? Is it possible it's a Windows warning you don't have the firewall / ant-virus running?

The exact words are: "Your Computer is Infected! Critical System Error! System detected virus activites. They may cause critical system failure. Please, use antimalware software to clean and protect your system from parasite programs. Click here to get all available software." It pops up every few minutes, along with the constantly flashing green wheelchair and red circle symbol in my taskbar. I doubt it's a windows warning, since it doesn't have the typical windows look, it doesn't sound very windows like and I've heard of loads of other people having the same problem as a result of viruses/spyware/malware, particularly on these forums.
