Welcome to the forum.

If you look at the way your HJT log is posted you'll see all the spaces between the entries. This is probably from not having "word wrap" checked - please check on this for me.

I see you have the Sky by Broadband service running (KService) – do you use this? If not let me know.

Download and unzip the KillBox to a folder - we'll use it later.

Please do this for me.....

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
5. Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

6. Reboot into safe mode
You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running - Click Scan and.....
Place a check against the following items:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {DD0D6996-6BAA-8744-9943-22AAD1825D72} -StatusCheck.dll (file missing)
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe tasksys.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Task Driver] tasksys.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Task Driver] tasksys.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Task Driver] tasksys.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Task Driver] tasksys.exe

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Now open up the KillBox and copy and paste each one of these in and hit delete, if the file exists, it will appear in blue under the window, if not move on to the next file. Let me know of any files that can't be deleted.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\wkssvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tasksys.exe
C:\local.exe

7. Run Ewido Security Suite --- Do a "Complete System Scan"
Let it clean all files
8. Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report Click Save report. Save the report .txt file to your desktop.

Tutorial if needed

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log and the log from Ewido Security Suite, MrC

As long as you copied the full path of the file in and hit delete - You're OK
If the file exists it will appear in blue under the window.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\wkssvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tasksys.exe
C:\local.exe

It's OK - I just wanted to know if you used it.

Hi Looks like I am sorted. I will make a Paypal donation , honest :-) Many Thanks Should I activate the realtime protection and Auto update on Ewido or just delete the programme I have on my system ( but you knew that ) and run on a regular basis as req Adaware , Spybot , Spyblaster , Avg ,Zonealarm , Bazooka now should I be adding Ewido to this and is there anything else I should consider. I don't know how I got the " ABetterInternet.Nail " is there any loopholes in my defences or is it just the dodgy sites I visit and Limewire

Yes you can, it's only a trial version but you can keep using it and manually update it.

If you have any questions - please post back

I'll leave you with........

Some preventive maintenance:

------------------Must have or do:-----------------

Now that you're clean: <----Important Step!!!!
Delete your system restore files and create a new restore point:
(ME and XP users only)

XP system restore

ME system restore

Visit Windows Update and install all the lastest critical updates.

Install these two free programs, they sit in the backround and protect your system from spy and adware being installed on your system, also from your browser being hijacked.

SpywareBlaster Check for updates weekly.

SpywareGuard

IE-SPYAD
Puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone, so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
or try the new ZonedOut

Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File

Need a free anti virus?
AVG*free
(check for updates - daily)
Avast free

How about a firewall? The front door to your computer.
ZoneAlarm*free

Other free firewalls

Keep those temp files off your system use
CCleaner
Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".
or
ATF Cleaner - hit "select all" (uncheck cookies is optional - leave it checked if you want to delete all cookies) then just uncheck "cookies" then "empty selected" That will clear out all the temp files on the system.

IMPORTANT!!
Keep your Sun Java up-to-date
Download page
Delete ALL old versions from add/remove programs if listed!

----------Free malware removal programs:----------

SpyBot
AD-Aware
CW-Shredder

Ewido trojan scanner<---VERY GOOD! (XP and 2K only)

Please consider using FireFox instead of Internet Explorer. A more secure browser! Easy to make the change!
FireFox Tutorial

Pop-up stoppers:
GoogleToolBar
Pop-upStopperFree

Disable Windows MessengerXP - 2K (stops pop-up ads -etc):
Disabling Messenger Service in Windows XP
How to Remove Windows Messenger on Windows XP
How to Remove Windows Messenger on Windows XP
Shoot The Messenger

Don't open e-mail attachments without first scanning them with an up-to-date
anti virus program, even after doing that I would be very careful. Don't click on any executables in e-mails or any other links that you're not sure of.
Watch your surfing habits, don't click on or download anything you're not sure of. Don't install a program that hasn't been recommended by a reputable organization.

Good luck and thanks for using the forum - MrC
