Hi, I keep getting a message that my computer may be impacted by the Bloodhound virus and then automatically presents an opportunity to purchase Sysprotect. I have all of the Symantec products installed and operating with Live Update. I have run Norton Anti-Virus and it detects no threat. Appreciate the help!

Hello and welcome to the TomCoyote forum. You have the Vundo trojan and there is some speculation it gets in through a Java which is not updated, this is the case on your computer. I am also going to suggest you remove all of the search junk which is not making your browser run better. You can click the links to see where it goes and keep any of the junk you wish, removal is optional.

1) Our first problem is that you are running HJT from a TEMP folder and it needs a permanent folder to store logs and backups for safety. I prefer you put it here: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need more instruction, use these: http://russelltexas....tehjtfolder.htm

2) These instructions will help you update the out of date Java program. If no one is going to do this manually, I would suggest you set it to autoupdates.
http://forums.spybot...read.php?t=2559

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix

3) Please download VundoFix v4.2.35 to the Desktop:
http://www.atribune....tent/view/24/2/
* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it
* Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task
* You will receive a message saying VundoFix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
* When VundoFix re-opens, click: Scan for Vundo
* Once it's done scanning, click: Remove Vundo
* A prompt asking if you want to remove the files appears, click: Yes
* Once you click yes, the Desktop goes blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, a prompt to shutdown the computer appears, click OK
* Turn the computer back on.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(next two may be removed by the fix)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Restart the computer and post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HJT log along with your comments.

Thanks...pskelley

Thank you! I appreciate the quick reply. The vundofix.txt and new HJT logs are below. I had some difficulty confirmimg whether or not I had loaded the new version of Java correctly - the Sun Mocrosystems website was a bit confusing. Really appreciate the help!

Cheers,
Craig.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. I shall make a point of passing your comment along to Sun. I am hearing nothing bad so I will assume the computer is back to normal. Your HJT log appears clean of malware so here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://boards.cexx.o...topic.php?t=957
http://russelltexas....re/allclear.htm
http://forum.malware...wtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingc...topict2520.html
http://cybercoyote.o...not-admin.shtml

I believe this would be a good time for a good cleaning, If you don't have a good cleaner, use this free one with these instructions:
Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Safe surfing...Phil :wavey:

Thanks for the great advice. I ran the cleaner and the System Restore trick and everything seems back to normal. Cheers, Craig.

Thanks Criag, appreciate the feedback. I want you to know I have already passed your comments on to Sun Microsystem. I have not heard back but I as soon as I do I will post the information for all to see.
I found these links in my files:
http://www.java.com/...load/manual.jsp
http://www.java.com/...d/installed.jsp

Make sure you get into those links I provided above, those folks are some of the sharpest I know in malware prevention areas. You be careful, it's a cyber-jungle out there

Thanks...Phil :wavey:
