Hi all - first, thanks in advance for your contribution in overcoming problems like this.

I stupidly clicked on a program on my desktop named UnSpy (or UnSpyPC). I've since spent about 10 hours chasing problems in my prefetch, registry, desktop and program files.

I think (hope) I have overcome any major threat but am not too knowledgable in the O/S and am at the edge of destroying my O/S intallation.

The problem that I can't seem to get rid of is my Google is being hijacked (I hope that's all that's left).

I'm a software designer/scripter (not really a programmer) who can't afford the time or cost of reloading everything so I really hope someone can help.

I run AdAware every couple of days and also have Registry Mechanic and XoftSpySE (' don't know if this matters)

Here is my log file...

hi

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

also post a new hiajckthis log

hi

ok, thats good :)

lets try this :

Please download ewido anti malware it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:

reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
then launch ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido anti malware.

reboot back to normal mode, post the ewido report and a log from a fresh hjt scan

Hi illukka,

Here are the new log files. I didn't originally note that I also cannot export my registry (it creates a 1k file) and I cannot boot in safe mode without unplugging during a regular boot to force the safe mode option.

I'm hoping your approach is considering that this program morphs. Looking at other posts on UnSpyPC, it seems that there needs to be a controlled process of cleaning, booting and recleaning, etc.

Here's the ewido file...

Well I think I got this thing licked, I went to check the Blacklight site to see if I was missing something. When I did, my browswer was hijacked again and Spyware Quake was installed and was running about 5 times. I also notices a new user was attempted to be installed. I decided the best way to beat this was to do a great deal of manual cleaning. Just to share with everyone, here are some brief notes. (The notes are summarized so if you don't CLEARLY understand them, I don't recommend you take the same approach yourself without help from someone here.) The Symptoms: - Selecting a Google search result would bring me to a different page. Usually something with the same search parameters on a different site. - Anytime a URL was called that included 'sex' the browswer would redirect to another site. Redirect to a non-sex site. - Every 50 or so new pages, the computer would download, install and run a new program. - The computer would not restart in Safe Mode unless you cancel a current boot routine. (doing so can and did damage my NTFS table) The Process: - I ran 5 different scanners/cleaners. I could run any one of them twice with a reboot inbetween and they would find more issues. Near the end, I fould nearly 200 illigitimate keys. This was after at least 10 deep scans but also after manually deleting some entries. - I typically ran a scanner or search then manually researched each file or key result then deleted the questionable ones. - One of the most important things I learned was to do everything at once and while in safe mode. What I deleted: (Use caution here (and comments from administrators are welcome) - I was very cautious to back up my registry and researched everything in detail. This doen't mean that I didn't delete something that I should have kept!) - Also remember, this is summarized and not typed accurately. - H-Key Users/IE/Exlorer Bars /[keys] - H-Key Users/IE/Command Mapping /[keys] - H-Key Users/IE/Command Mapping /[the Next ID with questionable entries] - Delete all intelliforms under /spw - Delete all keys in Current User/SW/MS/IE/Toolbar - Unistall the Google Toolbar - Delete all registry and HD references to Google or GToolBar - Delete all registry and HD references to sex (be careful - these letters appear in many pleural exclusions) - Delete all registry and HD references to xxx (installed xxx.exe) - Delete all registry and HD references to UnSpy - Delete all registry and HD references to dfrgsrv.exe - Delete all registry and HD references to mssearchnet.exe - Delete all registry and HD references to stickrep.dll - Delete all registry and HD references to interf.tbl - Delete all registry and HD references to nopez.exe - Delete all registry and HD references to xwiz.exe - Delete all registry and HD references to coolwebsearch - Delete all registry and HD references to S-1-5-32-547 (the user that was added) - Delete MANY HD files created as of the infection date. - Delete anything that scanners reported as questionable. There were many other things I deleted before starting to keep track. There was an application that ran in Program Files that started with a V. I don't remember the name but there was no uninstaller (don't use an unistaller anyway) I hope this helps anyone who has gotten infected. Personally I would like to cut off every finger of the people who write these, but hey, that's just my opinion. Good luck!
