G'Day mate and welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, follow these directions.

1) Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas....tehjtfolder.htm

2) I can see Computer Associates in Services but I am having a hard time telling if it is actively running in the log? If you do not have an active, current antivirus program, please let me know and I will provide a free one. It is cyber-suicide going online anymore without one.

Thanks to noahdfear and any others who helped with this fix.

3) Enable hidden files and folders: http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html You may not see the bad stuff unless you do this.

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Please print out or copy these instructions\tutorials to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

4) Download SmitRem.exe © noahdfear from one of these sites to your Desktop.
http://www.downloads...org/smitRem.exe
http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20cou....php?id=1"

Double-click the smitRem.exe and it will extract the files to a smitRem folder on your Desktop, DO NOT run it yet.

Please download the trial version of ewido anti-malware 3.5. Install ewido anti-malware 3.5: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and start the program from the icon on your desktop, then check for and download updates. DO NOT run it run.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Tuturial if needed: http://www.bleepingc...tutorial61.html

logon to your user account.
Open the smitfraud folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. When the tool completes:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, just start the program, then click "SCAN" Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: Nothing - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp23C5.tmp
O3 - Toolbar: SecurityToolbar - {736b5468-bdad-41be-92d0-22ae2ddf7bcb} - C:\Program Files\Security Toolbar\Security Toolbar.dll

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these files or folders:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvctrl.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mssearchnet.exe >>> file

C:\Program Files\Security Toolbar\ >>> folder

Open Ewido Security Suite
Then please run Ewido, click on the Scanner run a full scan and let
it clean everything it finds unless you know it is not bad.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom
of the screen named
Click Save report
Save the report to your desktop, I must see that resport!

In the Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Empty recycle bin and restart the computer.

Download this file from the link to your desktop.
http://www.mvps.org/.../DelDomains.inf

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'

Once it is finished your Zones should be reset.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Post in this same topic the contents of the log C:\smitfiles.txt a new HijackThis log and the ewido scan results.

Let me know how the computer is running now, we may have more to do.

Thanks...pskelley

Thanks pskelley, you're a legend! :)

Following are the requested reports, I couldn't find one for 'smitfiles.txt' so let me know if I need to search elsewhere.

All problems seem to have disappeared, let me know if any other work needs to be done.

Thanks again!
Paul

G'Day Paul, well if you saved:

Download SmitRem.exe © noahdfear from one of these sites to your Desktop

That file would have been in that folder, no big thing, if all is running well, we will move on to the other logs. If all was not running well, I would need to look at that information to find out why.

Looks like ewido was able to delete everything it located, located some real junk too as you can see.

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 8:43:42 AM, on 10/04/2006

1) C:\Documents and Settings\pharris\Desktop\HijackThis.exe <<< you did not move HJT to a safe location and this was you first instruction?

2) R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll (file missing) <<< this item was scheduled for removal with HJT in the instructions and it is still there. I suggest you use HJT to remove it.

The rest of the log looks to be clean, Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Safe surfing...Phil :wavey:
