That is funny! Anyway, I did use Symantec for a very long while when in fact a few times it did not pick up a few things, and the then I looked for the greater and newest of technologies.
I ended up going to ZoneAlarm Pro tonight. It was pretty easy to install and configure. I do have a couple of questions..
From our discussion of security issues, I decided to open up my work notebook and check on the corporate Symantec installation and do another scan. The scan engine is disabled and is returning a scan engine error 0x20000058. I went to research why I am unable to run a mannual scan.
Does this sound like normal corporate par for the course or could it be another something else was disabled from the prior infection? My thought is that I should still be able to run a manual scan if I want to with out error. I'm thinking I should probably check this out with tech support when they get to me. I heard all NY seems to be in outage on the VPN.
Also, When you have a wireless broadband network, are all computers on the network exposed to the same threats together or is it just one only all the time? (In other words, could the infection travel through your network?). I found 2 floating around my main system and just took care of that and installed Zone Alarm.
Where do these things come from anyway and how do they get leaked in?

There can be more then one answer for the question…..why the scan stopped with an error message.
If it had not been run through regular updates for the latest definitions…..
It had been disabled from an infection……which by design its a likely case.
Subscriptions had been ignored…..
Networking interuptions……
The list can continue, but the real reason I have no idea.
I can supply some links that you can read over and get idea's as to why and examine. Unable to initialize virus scanning engine
And another link to a Symantec quick scan for errors related to your product and version Help Me Solve It
