My OS is XP
Browser hijacking & pop-ups - started a day ago - being hijacked to amaena . com with blackworm virus warnings, and to various other sites.

I ran SpyBot, then rebooted.
Downloaded Hijack This
Downloaded VundoFix.exe

RAN Hijack This
My Hijack This Log is as follows: ... and thanks so much!

Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum, because the Vundo trojan is constantly changing, I suggest you delete the fix you downloaded and download it again from the information I am providing. Some items may be gone when you run HJT not to be concerned.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix

Please download VundoFix v4.2.35 to the Desktop:
http://www.atribune....tent/view/24/2/
* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it
* Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task
* You will receive a message saying VundoFix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
* When VundoFix re-opens, click: Scan for Vundo
* Once it's done scanning, click: Remove Vundo
* A prompt asking if you want to remove the files appears, click: Yes
* Once you click yes, the Desktop goes blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, a prompt to shutdown the computer appears, click OK
* Turn the computer back on.

Run HijackThis, Scan
Check box for:

O2 - BHO: DosSpecFolder Object - {3E1BEA96-02D9-4992-B508-9B51819D9D86} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\khhed.dll
O16 - DPF: {88D758A3-D33B-45FD-91E3-67749B4057FA} (Sinstaller Class) - http://dm.screensave.../sinstaller.cab
O20 - Winlogon Notify: khhed - C:\WINDOWS\system32\khhed.dll

With all browser windows and programs closed, Select: Fix Checked

Restart the computer

Run HijackThis, Scan, and provide a new HJT log, as well as the contents of C:\vundofix.txt. We may have more to do, let me know how the computer is running now.

Your Java program is outdated and that is unsafe C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\ view the information in this link: http://forums.spybot...read.php?t=2559

Hi ~ thanks so much for your time and help.

I did as you asked, regarding VundoFix.

Regarding HijackThis, you asked me to look for these files:
Check box for:

O2 - BHO: DosSpecFolder Object - {3E1BEA96-02D9-4992-B508-9B51819D9D86} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\khhed.dll ... this item was not found

O16 - DPF: {88D758A3-D33B-45FD-91E3-67749B4057FA} (Sinstaller Class) - http://dm.screensave.../sinstaller.cab ... this item was checked and deleted

O20 - Winlogon Notify: khhed - C:\WINDOWS\system32\khhed.dll ... this item was found BUT the .dll file was NOT khhed.dll - it was igfxcui.dll ... so I DID NOT check it or delete it as I was uncertain.

Re: JAVA ... I went to ADD/Remove and removed all JAVA programs, rebooted. I have decided not to update/reinstall a newer version at this time, since I deleted the program that I downloaded it for in the first place. If I find I need it I will get the latest version from Sun's site.

I am not having any pop-ups, but I thought my laptop was running fairly fast - well, it's blazing now! Again, thank you!!

Hello and thanks for the feedback, it helps so much :) I did indicate that some items might not be there, the Vundo fix normally removes two lines but I like to check in case they are left with a (file missing) Looks like you killed another Vundo trojan  Let's look at the HJT log and then I will comment where I need to.

Your HJT log is clean of malware, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://boards.cexx.o...topic.php?t=957
http://russelltexas....re/allclear.htm
http://forum.malware...wtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingc...topict2520.html
http://cybercoyote.o...not-admin.shtml

This item: O20 - Winlogon Notify: igfxcui - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxsrvc.dll has to do with this:
Winlogon Notify igfxcui L igfxsrvc.dll Intel® integrated graphics controller and is surely valid to your system.

From what little I know about Java, the VundoFix needed it to run, for one thing. I understand there are two options, the tool Microsoft offers and the one from Sun. You may want to look into it more, I believe some of the virtual effects that make modern computing such fun, may not funchtion without one or the other, hope that helps.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

Here are some ideas that may make your computer perform even better:

Hi Patricia, thanks for the followup :) Let's hope you never need our services again. I apologize, but I have very Irish roots and I liked the thought of the green elf when I first started learning to remove malware maybe six years ago, so I chose that avatar and it has no significance to any game in my mind  If you ever have an urge to learn more, let us know and we will direct you to where you can learn to fight malware free. This battle is one for the ages and I am not sure who is winning just now. I do know how it turns out having read the back of the book. Be careful, it is a cyber jungle out there. Thanks...Phil :wavey:
