Hi I'm a student who shares a house with three other students. Our computers have access to the network via a router. My computer is connected to the router by an ethernet cable and I am the only one who has access to the router settings. Everyone else in the house has wireless connections.

Over the last three days the routers incomming log has been showing activity on ports 8960 13693 13707 bootpc and 1026. This activity is still there after I turn off wireless routing and cut everyone off so I know the problem is with my computer or the router or both.

Another mystery is that sometimes I get a message stating that there is an IP address conflict with someone else on the network. I've read on the internet that hackers sometimes duplicate the existing MAC address and IP address someone already on a network detection.

Port 8960 was the random port used by one of my housemates for Bitcomet. Previously a random port I was using for bitcomet was showing on the incomming log and was still there for a few hours after I uninstalled bitcomet. Soon after my housemates bitcomet port was always on the log even when her computer was switched off.

Sometimes we can't access the internet and get a message saying server not found. We have a house rule that noone downloads during the day because we need the internet for our coursework. Everyone swears they are not downloading when there is no internet access on my computer.

I'd be really grateful if you could help me or recommend someone who may be able to if this isn't your specialist area. Thank you.

Here's my hijack this log.

Hi again
I've found solutions to some of these problems mostly by browsing forums. The incomming port activity after bitcomet is closed is because other bitcomet users don't know that my bitcomet is closed so continue to try and make contact for several days after. One of my housemates was secretly downloading by using the same mac address as me so that it looked like I was the only one online and I couldn't find out who was responsible. This has now stopped after we found out and confronted her about it. That wasn't a very nice thing she did. This may explain the ip address conflicts too.

I'd would be grateful if someone could still look at my log please because sometimes when I open my motzilla browser msn home page shows up and it shouldn't. Plus I still don't know what the bootpc port is being used for.

Thankyou for taking the time to read this.

Hi
I replied to my own post so didn't get a response within 5 days. I now know that I shouldn't have done that. Could someone look at my hijack this log for me please and let me know if there is anything I should delete.
Thank you
Thomas :)
