DVD Drive opens and closes constantly

Yesterday my DVD drive developed a mind of its own. It is now opening and closing constantly. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Did you install it? Recently? Jumpers set correctly? New IDE ribbon? Independant or shared power connector. Added any other hardware recently? In your BIOS, what is the boot order? Do you have a floppy drive and a Win98 StartUp Disk? If you boot your computer with a startup disk in your floppy drive and the DVD keeps opening and closing, then you probably have a hardware problem. I think most of the supposed malware problems related to Media Drives opening and closing were Hoaxes, but it sure wouldn't hurt to run whatever antivirus and antispyware programs you have onboard. Update your antivirus and antispyware, then reboot to SAFE Mode. Then run the scans while in SAFE Mode. Please post back with the requested info about your hardware. Best Regards
