Hi,
I have been getting about 75MB to 125 MB of download to my hard drive every day with nothing open?
I close off my interent connection for even up to 12 hours and as soon as it is back on it starts up immediately. I know there is some traffic as I compare with friends computer's with very similar programs and I get 3 - 5 times the volume?? Am I just imagining this or do I have some new type of malware?? Please help!!

Hello LoWd0Wn, Welcome to the forum.

RemotelyAnywhere
Are you using this program for any reason?
LogMeInSystray.exe RemotelyAnywhere is a remote administration and remote control solution for Windows. It allows access to the host computer via the network (the LAN, an intranet or the Internet) - and on the client side all you need is a web browser, a terminal emulator or a WAP-enabled phone.

Yes I am using it to access my computer at work from home and vice versa. At first I thought it was the problem of my downloading but it is not as my computer at work has the same and it is not downloading this much. I started my computer in safe mode with networking and ran netstat and nothing comes up?? I opened DU Meter to monitor the downloads and it is still downloading at about .7 average. Nothing changed so it must be system based and not program based. I ran netstat in regular windows and was getting an ip from akamai.com but found out they they supply streaming and such for many companys like Microsoft, ect. I compared my computer with 3 others (friends) plus my work computer and I am downloading about 3 times as much as them with nothing running. The other 3 friends all run log me in as well. Any help would be appreciated.

lets see if we can find anything.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system. If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so immediately. This is a necessary step to kill the infection!

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HJT log as well as the Resullts from Spy Sweeper file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

1. Please download Stinger and save it to your desktop

2. When prompted, choose to save the file to a convenient location on your hard disk (such as your Desktop folder).

Posted Image

3. When the download is complete, navigate to the folder that contains the downloaded Stinger file, and run it.

4. The Stinger interface will be displayed.

Posted Image

5. If necessary, click the Add or Browse button to add additional drives/directories to scan. By default the C: drive will be scanned.
Click the Scan Now button to begin scanning the specified drives/directories.
By default Stinger will repair all infected files found.

6. Click the File menu and select Save report to file

7. Post the log file results here in this thread.

Thanks LD for your continuing help. This is a tough one. I ran stinger and found nothing I will post the log after this. Someone mentioned to try running netstat in Safe Mode with Networking. I did that and ran my du meter and I still get the same amount of traffic. Doesn't that mean that it is a system based problem and not program based? Netstat did not show anything in Safe Mode. I wonder if it is my network card that would be downloading this much. And it is downloading, not just traffic or bandwidth. It's not spyware , malware or a virus?? My computer runs as fine as ever , I just noticed one day that I was getting that much downloaded. So Strange. Here is the log. McAfee AVERT Stinger Version 2.5.9 built on Feb 2 2006 Copyright © 2005 Networks Associates Technology, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Virus data file v1000 created on Feb 2 2006. Ready to scan for 55 viruses, trojans and variants. Scan initiated on Fri Mar 10 14:16:07 2006 Number of clean files: 102827

Hi, Already tried that. Webshots is my desktop I use and the other is Microsoft Works 7.0 Calender I use. They are also on my computer at work and that one does not have a problem, but when I was first diagnosing this with another tech , he had me do the same and it did not do anything either. I am going to try a different network card and see what happens. I will keep you posted. If you have any other suggestions please pass them along. Thanks again for all your time on this.
