I've spent the last several days reading through the forum for solutions and tried them all. In particular: redirect problems. 61.192.130.141 ad-w-a-r-e.com with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. I've run all the scans suggested. Thanks a million!

Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum. This is Adware.Look2Me. Do you own SpySweeper, it should remove that item? If you don't own Spysweeper and the trial has expired, consider uninstalling it, to my knowledge it is just using resources.

1) Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas....tehjtfolder.htm

2) If SS is unavailable to you, turn it off so it can't block this fix.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix

3) Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
  • Close all windows before continuing.
  • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
  • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
  • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
  • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Your computer will then shutdown.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If Look2Me-Destroyer does not reopen automatically, reboot and try again.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.
http://www.ascentive...ib/MSWINSCK.OCX

More info:

If for some reason Look2Me-Destroyer doesn't reopen check that task scheduler is running.
If it isnt you can use sc.exe to start it

start>run sc start schedule press enter.

Post the two logs bolded above in this same thread, include your comments and we will have more to do.

Thanks...pskelley

Thanks for your reply, let me bring you up to speed since I last posted. I read through the self help and topics that were similar to my problem. I do have SS on my computer and it was blocking adware.com until I tried some other suggestions. I downloaded the destroyer.exe you mentioned, ran it, it found the look2me file and deleted. Now where the log went I have no idea. That was yesterday. I'll post a new HJT log for you to review. ( I moved the file as suggested) The pop ups have stopped and my browser seems to be fine but all my programs are so slow. Any additional help is apprecited.

I'm still running the free version of SS and AVG anti virus along with Ghost Surf, but then again~ you probably already knew that!! LOL Thanks again. Margaret

OK Margaret, The text file should be in the C:\Look2Me folder, and I can do without it. The L2m infection is gone, as you know Spysweeper is a trial so unless you purchase it I would uninstall it. The program does use a lot of resources and is part of the reason for the slower computer. You can also remove Destroyer, hopefully you will never need it again, if you should you would want a fresh download as it is updated often. I am not familiar with GhostSurf, but AVG is a great free program. If you every have a problem with it you can get help here: http://forum.grisoft...rum/index.php?0 Let's clean a little clutter, I will also remove this if you wish: ALCXMNTR.EXE <<< see what CastleCops has to say: http://castlecops.co...uplist-180.html

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} - http://download.game...aploader_v6.cab
see this: http://castlecops.com/atxlist-747.html

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Enable hidden files&folders..reverse the process when finished.
http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE >>> file (careful of the spelling, and if you decided to remove it)

C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete the contents (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsne...refetch-XP.html

If you don't have a good cleaner, use this one with these instuctions:
Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log for a last look.

Thanks...Phil

Here are some other ideas that may help your computer run better:

Thanks again Phil,
I did all that and the new log is below. I'll follow the tips in speeding up the computer as uninstalling SS hasn't helped much. Also, on the log the first 2 reference you made staring with HKCU...didn't go away, anything to be worried about? You (everyone here) are an amazing resource! Thanks so much. Margaret

Hi Margaret, thanks for the information. Those two line are just clutter, not bad not good. When they do not go away like that it means a program you are running is protecting your browser from changes. Looks like one of these: C:\Program Files\GhostSurf 2005 or Windows Defender. You can turn them off and run HJT again, or you can start your computer in safe mode: http://www.bleepingc...tutorial61.html http://computer.hows...question575.htm or you can leave them there.

You HJT log looks great  here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

System Restore does not know good from bad, it backs up everything. In case some of the infection got into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, restart your computer and turn it back on.

Safe surfing...Phil :wavey:
