Hey guys, I'm having horrible trouble with popups. Its almost like a constant stream of them. I'm running Spybot and Ad-Aware. They find some things, but they keep coming back every time I scan. Any help is greatly appreciated. Here is my HJT log:

Hi corndogg :)

The internet is a dangerous place to be without an antivirus!

Please download one of these free programs, install and update the virus definitions.:

http://www.grisoft.c...s_dwnl_free.php

http://www.free-av.com/

http://www.download....4-10375520.html

Next,

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar to: "C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" or
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose close to terminate the application.." then please use Option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. Do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

We have a new update to this 'fix', so I'm going to ask you to follow the instructions below:

Written by Atribune

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.

Close all windows before continuing.
Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run this program as a task.

You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.

You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
Your computer will then shutdown.

Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.

Please print these instructions out so that you follow them as instructed:

1. Download Winhelp2002's deldomain.inf to your desktop. http://www.mvps.org/.../DelDomains.inf

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'
It will not appear not to have done anything, but that's okay :)

***Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

2. Press Ctrl/ Alt/ Del at the same time to pull up task manager (or right click on the task bar and click task manager)
Highlight:

WMP32.EXE
msoftconf.exe
msoftconf12.exe

Click 'end process'

3. Rescan with HJT, check these items, close all programs and windows except HJT:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Media Player] WMP32.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Configure 32] msoftconf.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Configure12] msoftconf12.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Windows Media Player] WMP32.EXE

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.elitemediagroup.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://click.getmirar.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://click.mirarsearch.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://redirect.mirarsearch.com (HKLM)

4. Click "FIX CHECHED"

5. Reboot into safe mode
Restart the computer
Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the <Enter> key.

6. Show Hidden Files and Folders

Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

7. Search for and delete these files:

WMP32.EXE
msoftconf.exe
msoftconf12.exe

Rehide 'hidden files and folders when done with your search.

8. Clean out all the temporary files and cookies on your system. Go to Start > Run type cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Check these three boxes and then press ok to remove:
Temporary Files,
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin.

Next go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Note: If you cannot delete them all at once because you have too many, then click and hold ctrl and highlight a batch of them at a time. Once highlighted, R-click over the highlight and select delete.

Then use "Start > Run" and type in "%temp%" (without the quotes). Delete the entire contents of that "temp" folder (use "Edit > Select All", press "Delete", click "Yes").

Empty your Temporary Internet Cache completely. Close all instances of Outlook and and Internet Explorer, then use "Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab" and click the "Delete File" button. When prompted place a check in: "Delete all offline content", then click OK.

Then, use Windows Explorer to clean out ALL the other temp folders on your system (navigate to the folder, use "Edit > Select All", press "Delete", click "Yes"):

* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\

* C:\Windows\Prefetch\

being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to
manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/

Once the updates are installed, do the following:

1.. Click on scanner.
2.. Click on Complete System Scan, the scan will now begin.
3.. While the scan is in progress you will be promted to clean
files, click OK.
4.. When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a
checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on
all infections", then choose clean and click OK.
5.. Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located at
the bottom of the screen named Save Report.
6.. Click Save Report.
7.. Now save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Close Ewido.

Post both the txt report and a new HJT log.

Oops, looks like you picked up something else.

Download KillBox

Unzip the folder to your desktop. Don't start it yet.

Disconnect from the net, rescan with HJT.

Check this item:

O16 - DPF: {9AC54695-69A4-46F1-BE10-10C74F9520D5} (elitectl.DemoCtl) - http://cabs.elitemed...s/mediaview.cab

Close all windows and programs except HJT, then click "fix checked"

Start Killbox.exe

When it is open, enter C:\WINDOWS\system32\TFTP2996 into the field labeled "Full path of file to delete".

Select the Delete on reboot option.

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.

Your computer will reboot and check to see if the file is gone.

After you have rebooted your computer, please download, install and update BOTH Spybot s&d and Ad-aware SE. (if you don't have the current versions)

Follow the tutorials and deep scan your computer with both programs:

Spybot S&D 1.40 download and tutorial:
tutorial http://www.bleepingc...showtutorial=43
download http://www.safer-networking.org/

Ad-Aware SE 1.06 download and Tutorial:
tutorial http://www.bleepingc...uter-tut48.html
download http://www.lavasoftu...ftware/adaware/

Reboot once again and run another Ewido scan. Post the results from Ewido and a new HJT log.

You're welcome :D

We're going to finish up now....

Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

***You will want to finish cleaning now by removing your restore points and starting fresh with them.
Please do this:

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot.
Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
