My computer's acting strange. Spybot S&D cannot immunize against 6 items. I don't know what they are. I heard about HijackThis, and thought I'd check it out.

Here's my log, hope someone can tell me what, if anything, I need to remove. And instructions :-)

Thanks,

Hello len snart, Welcome to the forum.

This is what I suggest you do.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
[*]A new window will open...click the Check Now button
[*]Enter your Country
[*]Enter your State/Province
[*]Enter your e-mail address and click send
[*]Select either Home User or Company
[*]Click the big Scan Now button
[*]If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
[*]It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
[*]When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
[*]When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

I see you already have SpyBot. If it's not the newest version, please follow the instructions for that also.

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.4 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.06 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

1. Launch Ad-Aware SE and run the WebUpdate feature. (Click on the Globe icon > Click connect > Click OK > Click Finish.)
2. Set up the Configurations as follows:
-- Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
-- Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
-- Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
3. Click "Proceed"
4. Click "Scan Now"
5. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
6. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
7. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
8. When the scan has completed, select Next.
9. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
10. Check the box next to each "target family" you wish to remove.
11. Click next > Click OK.

Alrighty then, per your instructions:

1:downloaded and ran CWShredder - found nothing, fixed same
2:eTrust AntiVirus - found nothing
3: Panda ActiveScan - found 1 suspicious file (Report follows)
4: Downloaded, installed and ran latest Spybot V1.4 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.06 - they found nothing, though Spybot still has behavior that got me started down this road.

After updating the Spybot I always immunize my system, run a recheck and then go on. Lately, Spybot says I'm immunized against 2488 baddies. I run a re-check it says I am immunized against 2482 baddies and 6 more can be added. I immunize, it says 2488, re-check 2482 + 6 to add.

Since this was happening, I figured something may have compromised Spybot and or Ad-aware and maybe my system.

System is slower in loading applications. Mouse pointer sometimes sticks or delays when moving the mouse (yes, I have cleaned my mouse ;-) ) more background disk activity than I used to have. I just have a general feeling that something isn't right. Oh, one more thing, I am on a small home network sharing a DSL line. I used to have to enter my username and password on bootup, but that screen no longer comes up.

Anyway, your help is much appreciated. Here are the Panda report and latest HijackThis log file.

Thanks,

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [KB891711] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KB891711\KB891711.EXE

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files (If listed)
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

OK, ran hijackthis and selected and fixed as suggested. Followed that by running disk clean up.

My system seems to be running better, mouse pointer isn't sticky, I don't see as much background disk activity.

However, there is no change in these two things:

1)
Spybot S&D still cannot seem to properly deal with 6 bad products. I run immunization check it tells me X number bad products blocked, 6 additional protections possible. I immunize and it tells me X+6 bad products blocked, but when I re-check, I 'm back to X blocked and 6 possible.

I'd feel more comfortable if Spybot could block those 6 and keep them blocked.

2) Still do not get any user name/password request screens when my system boots.

Here's my latest log.

Thanks,

Good job, your log looks clean of spyware.

For SpyBot issues, please visit their web site:

)

Still do not get any user name/password request screens when my system boots.

If you only have one user, it won't ask for a password / user as far as I know.
