Lets do this:
Backup your Registry...
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run...)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL
I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.

The ISP I am with is a company called Tiscali -is there anyway to check that the entry belongs to that companyout?
Has the #17 entry come back after we deleted it yesterday because it is the ISP rather than anything to do with howiper?
Do I need to do anything more now? eg do the system restore again?
also when I ran the spyguard it came up with 3 critical files - do I delete them?
Presumably once I am finished to your satisfaction can I delete the various programs we have used tonight

Turn off System Restore:
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Restart your computer, turn it back on.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK

Apologies for not responding to the reopened thread. I have been away for a few days and I was expecting that I would be informed by email that the thread had been reopened .
Mr Tate kindly sorted out my problem with howiper as you can see from the previous threads. I immediately downloaded adaware and spy guard as advised however I had some problems updating them and I think I might have been reinfected
- When I ran the adawrae and the microsoft antispyware they both prompted Norton to alert that windows/32/howiper.exe was present and it couldn't be repaired .
I then ran the hijack log and noted it was different to the last one Mr Tate advised on and I have posted this below.(04/02/06)
When I ran a full Norton scan then for the first time it picked up the howiper in a scan rather than as a prompt. It allowed me to delete the howiper which I did and I have attached a hijack log which I have just run.
I would be grateful if you could check over the two logs and give your views.

Mr Tate kindly sorted out my problem with howiper as you can see from the previous threads. I immediately downloaded adaware and spy guard as advised however I had some problems updating them and I think I might have been reinfected
- When I ran the adawrae and the microsoft antispyware they both prompted Norton to alert that windows/32/howiper.exe was present and it couldn't be repaired .
I then ran the hijack log and noted it was different to the last one Mr Tate advised on and I have posted this below.(04/02/06)
When I ran a full Norton scan then for the first time it picked up the howiper in a scan rather than as a prompt. It allowed me to delete the howiper which I did and I have attached a hijack log which I have just run.
I would be grateful if you could check over the two logs and give your views.

After searching google it appears that that # is one associated with my internet provider. I have e mailed them to confirm.

Last week you advised that I back up the registry before one of the programs searched through it and then we deleted things. Should I now delete that back up file on the basis that it might contain something it shouldn't
