Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forums. You do have some problems including being hijacked to someplace in the Ukraine: http://www.whois.sc/85.255.115.53
This is a Wareout infection and we will try to take care of it first. I need to say it looks like you may being posting your HJT log in safe mode, if this is the case, please post in normal mode unless I request otherwise. This is a nasty infection, I am going to suggest you stay offline until you are clean as much as possible, this infection will attract others.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.gee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, Hijack This will launch. Close Hijack This, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new Hijack This log.
We will have more to do.

Thanks...pskelley

OK Vern, we have a ways to go, let's proceed like this:

1) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

2) Ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,(Default) = about:blank
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msaz32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\msaz32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ntxx32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\ntxx32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [apioi.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\apioi.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [atlca32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\atlca32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [appgr.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\appgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sdkad.exe] C:\WINDOWS\sdkad.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Cleaner] "C:\Program Files\Spyware Cleaner\SpywareCleaner.Exe" /boot
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{DC7ABE51-FBF5-416B-9A6B-28F0307D8AD9}: NameServer = 85.255.115.53,85.255.112.5

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Enable hidden files&folders..reverse the process when finished.
http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\atlca32.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\ntxx32.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\sdkad.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\apioi.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\appgr.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msaz32.exe >>> file

C:\Program Files\Spyware Cleaner\ >>> folder

C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete everything in this folder (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsne...refetch-XP.html

Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

If you have any problems because we removed the Wareout Name Server, use this information, if no problems ignore this:
Click "Start", "Control Panel", "Network connections". Rightclick on your default connection and click "Properties".
Doubleclick "Internet Protocol". Check "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

Post the ewido scan results and a new HJT log along with your comments about how the computer is running now.

Thanks...Phil

Good morning Vern, I am looking at the ewido scan report first. All of the item you ignored in the beginning of that scan are bad and must be addressed. The first thing I need to know is if you have more than one user on this computer? If this is the case, I need a log while signed in to each user. If not, then proceed like this. Make sure you have hidden files and folder enabled: http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html then navigate to this folder: C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT\ Open the folder, then open the Bin in the folder and delete everything in it. If we have established you have more than one user, do the same thing with any other Bins. Delete all of the contents.

Now navigate to here: C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\YPSR\Quarantine\ open the Quarantine folder and delete everything in it. Empty your recycle bin and restart the computer. Scan with ewido again, making sure it is a complete system scan and that you remove anything ewido locates unless you know it is not bad, then post the results for me to see. No need to post another HJT log...it appears to be clean. I think we are almost there, how is the computer running now? Don't forget to let me know about multiple users (and I will need HJT logs from them, if there are any)

Thanks...Phil

I have neven used Norton, but this is what I find:
http://www.bleepingc...t.exe-3766.html
http://www.neuber.co...rotect.exe.html
Since you no longer use Norton, I would say you can delete that whole folder (NPROTECT) not the C:\Recycler\. I can't find the information right now, but I believe the C:\Recycler comes into play in XP when multiple users are running. Giving each user a final bin before it is removed from the system. That was why I asked about multiple users.
Make sure you have a Recycle Bin on your desktop.

Thanks...Phil

OK Vern, ewido killed them this time  I am concerned about this: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{CD283BB0-5FEA-F204-BC88-8C3CA240315D} -> Spyware.CoolWebSearch : Ignored
but not to concerned. It is a registry entry and I searched for the CLSID number with Google and got this:
http://www.google.co.....-8C3CA240315D You can navigate to that item, know it be the CLSID number.
If you are unconfortable removing a registry entry with out a backup:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

Click Start > Run > type "regedit" with out the quotes. Follow: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{CD283BB0-5FEA-F204-BC88-8C3CA240315D} + HKEY_Local_Machine + SOFTWARE + Classes + CLSID now locate that CLSID number: CD283BB0-5FEA-F204-BC88-8C3CA240315D Right click and delete it.

If you prefer using a Registry cleaner, use this one with these directions:
http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm
Backup Registry:
Backup your Registry...
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run...)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL

I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder,
open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program.
Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK.
When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked
and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within
the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything
it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly,
control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything).
In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click
any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen.
Reboot When done.

Everything else looks good so, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://boards.cexx.o...topic.php?t=957
http://russelltexas....re/allclear.htm
http://forum.malware...wtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingc...topict2520.html

In case any bad stuff got backed up in your system restore files, use these directions to get clean files:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

Safe surfing...Phil :wavey:

When you set your homepage, open Internet Explorer (if that is the browser you use) click on Tools, then Internet Options. You have thee choices, you can click Use Current (this will make the homepage whatever is displayed on the browser at that time. If you click Use Default that will usually be the homepage of your Service Provider. If you choose Use Blank, your homepage will be blank. Which one are you setting? Thanks...Phil

Hey Vern, your log looks fine. Sometimes there will be a slowdown at TC. There are days when I can't get in at all. It is probably not your computer. I don't do Monitors, that is not malware. It is probably a hardware problem, or a driver. How old is the monitor. Give me the brand and model number and I might be able to point you to some information.
Make sure you look back over all the information I provided to see if you completed all instructions.

Here is some generic information: http://www.google.co...G=Google Search

Thanks...Phil
