My wife's laptop apparently has the Winfixer pop-up problem…The Winfixer Adware pops up periodically in IE, and continues to pop up 3x when attempting to close it. Sometimes she also gets the adultfriendfinder.com pop-up, or a casino adware pop-up as well. I use Norton Antivirus and Internet Security, and have run Webroot Spy Sweeper, Adaware, Ewido, Spy-Bot Search & Destroy, and CWShredder, both in normal and safe mode. Below is my HijackThis log…I appreciate your help.

Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, I will see what I can do. You are running a load of heavy resource users, surprised the computer is moving. Please do this for starters.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix

1) Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
2) Open the ewido program and update it first. Now choose scanner and complete system scan. Allow ewido to remove anything it finds unless you know it is not bad. Make sure you save the scan report, I must see it.

Post the VundoFix.exe and the ewido scan results in this same thread along with any comments you have. We will have more to do.

Do you own SpySweeper? If not and the trial period is over, I suggest you uninstall it. It is just using resources and giving you no benefits.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi pskelley,

Thank you for your assistance…I am not working with another support source on this issue, so your involvement to the bitter end is really appreciated! Below is the vundofix.txt, ewideo scan, and HijackThis results as requested, I also removed SpySweeper as recommended. This computer is also used by my teenagers for aol and itunes, along with other sites such as myspace, so I know it's resources are loaded down…Any suggestions for lightening the load would be welcomed.

Regards,
gh1979

OK  you got the Vundo trojan that was probably causing most of your issues. If you have more than one user, I should see a log while signed in to each. This information will help you contol cookies in IE:

No surprises in ewido either and you were able to remove everything it located. When I was talking about resource users, that was basically NAV, SpySweeper (which is gone) and ewido.
ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Since your HJT log is clean, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Since the bad stuff may be backed up in your System Restore files wait for you to use SR and infect you again, use this information to get clean SR files:

This: O4 - Global Startup: Logitech Desktop Messenger.lnk = C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LDMConf.exe is usually installed with other Logitech products because the EULA agreement is not read. Unless you use it, I suggest you uninstall it: Desktop Messenger

Looks like your Java program is out of date and that is a security issue. Start > Control Panel > Java > update as soon as possible.

These are running and may not be needed at every boot:
