Need help w/winfixer pop-ups

Below is my hijackthis log. I don't have winfixer downloaded but I do keep getting the pop-ups for it and other ads (like breastgain and some singles website). I've used adaware and spybot and also have mcafee, but none of this are helping. Can anybody take a look at my log and help? Please remember, I am just a "computer user" and responses need to be on my low, low level of knowledge about the inner workings of computers!!! Thanks!

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing .

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log.

Copy/paste the contents of that log into this thread.


IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning that should look like this

    By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue….

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

    Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    Then Press Enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\xxyxv.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

    Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    Then Press Enter to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\vxyxx.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

Copy a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

After the reboot, delete these files if they still exist:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\khffe.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nnlml.dll

They will be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these files.

Micah, help again!! I tried to start it in safe mode and I did get as far as a black screen with safe mode written in both bottom corners of the screen and something across the top. Then I tried to start it in "safe mode with networking" and while I did get further, it did not how the VundoFix folder on my desktop but showed other desktop items. Thanks! Lori

After booting in "safe mode", push these three keys at the same time:



The task manager appears on the screen.

Click on the Applications tab, then click New task.

Then click on Browse.

"Browse" your system to the KillVundo.bat file in the VundoFix folder, then click OK.

It's here:

Make a folder for it, and move it into the new folder where you can find it:

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.

MOVE (drag-and-drop) HijackThis into this folder.

If you cannot find everything you need to complete "the fix" while in "safe mode", close all open windows/programs and run "the fix" while booted "normally".
