It was interesting to read threads started by first time users as they attempt to resolve infections and such. I was hoping to piggy back off one of these but alas I have to admit defeat. Following is the Log from Hijack This; assistance with removing iworm_attck and any other undesirables would be most appreciated.

Important: Do this before any fix.

Please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

The reason we do this is Hijackthis creates backup files just in case you'd need to restore one and we'll be cleaning out the temp files.

After the above:

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,Search = about:blank

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,Search = about:blank

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.fastlook.net/sb.php

F1 - win.ini: run=fntldr.exe C:\WINDOWS\..\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\MSInfo\info32.exe C:\WINDOWS\..\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\MSInfo\msinfo.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Tapicfg.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\tapicfg.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LiveSexCam_au] C:\Program Files\VCom\Dialers\LiveSexCam_au\LiveSexCam_au.exe /dontdial

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

O19 - User stylesheet: (file missing)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

delete these folders if listed:
C:\Program Files\VCom\Dialers

delete these files if listed:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tapicfg.exe

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED PROFILE USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

The system seems to be running fine with the exception that I can't reset the homepage from within IE - a message appears advising that the option to reset has been restricted by an adminstrator. This also applies to some of the other options on the menus. This is my own doing from some time ago when I installed a software package that included a feature to stop the home page being hijacked. Unfortunately I can't recall which program and have been unable to remove this "security" feature. I am able to reset the page by right clicking on the IE icon and going into properties.

I'm heading off to Melbourne for a wedding tomorrow and won't be back till Monday night. So I won't be able to act on any advise till then... just didn't want you to think that I've lost interest or don't appreciate the help :)

Following is the log from tonight.

A couple of things..
- the computer is taking a little longer to finish loading the initial programs on start-up. I suspect that's because ewido is being loaded.
- I still can't select Internet Options from the drop down menu from within IE, the same message about "the operation being cancelled due to restrictions being in place" displays.
- The yellow shield is displaying advising that there are updates available for the computer. Prior to getting this issue with the computer selecting this option would take me to the Microsoft site. I'm reluctant to select the icon in case it's not legitimate.

Having said this the PC appears to be running fine. I haven't tried using any app's other than Outlook, IE, the Spider card game and of course ewido and co.

Good Job

Log looks good :D  How is it running any issues?

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
