Hello,

I am new to this board, and the fixing of spyware in general, so please bear with me. I have a Dell computer running Win XP Home Edition SP2. It is a P4 2.8 ghz, but you would never know it… For the past week or so the computer runs extremely slow, and I keep getting a popup that says "Warning: Your computer may have critical errors in registry and file system!" It says Add/Remove Programs - Microsoft Internet Explorer in the title bar at the top of the window, and the web address is www.winfixer.com/pages/scan…

I have tried running Adaware, Microsoft Anti Spyware, and Ewido, all to no avail. Please help!

Here is my Hijack this logfile. Thanks again for your time and help.

Update… Now, besides running EXTREMELY slow, and IE crashing all the time, IE will also say that it has become disconnected, do I want to reconnect? This shouldn't be happing as all of the rest of the computers on the network can still access the internet. The only way I can get it to work is to restart again. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum. Sorry for the wait, the logs far outnumber the volunteers. This is the Vundo trojan and I have a new tool to remove it that has been working well. First I want to suggest that you have a lot of Dell clutter re-directing you to Dell ads and I would like to remove it, it may make your browser run a little faster. You can still set any homepage you wish and I am sure you know how to find Dell adds if you need them.

I also see SpySweeper and ewido. Keep in mind that unless you own SS it is using a lot of resources and is of no benefit once the trial is over to my knowledge. ewido is also a good program, but once the trial is over, there is no realtime protection unless you purchase it and it should be stopped from running. You can still update and run the scanner manually. Having said all of that, let's proceed like this.

1) Please start by downloading VirtumundoBegone http://secured2k.home.comcast.net/tools/VirtumundoBeGone.exe and save it to your desktop. When you have done this doubleclick on VirtumundoBeGone.exe and follow the instructions. Do not worry if you see a BLUE SCREEN "Fatal Error" Message, it is normal and expected.
When it has finished, reboot and post the log that is created on your desktop called VBG.TXT in your next reply.

2) Since ewido is onboard, open it and update first, then choose scanner and run a complete system scan removing anything located unless you know it. These instructions may help to configure it for maximum effectiveness: http://rstones12.geekstogo.com/ewidosetup.htm Save the scan report to post for me.

3) Microsoft AntiSpyware may block the HJT fix. It is safest to go offline, disable it, run the fix and then enable it again before going back online.
Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/mywaybiz
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com/search/de_srchlft.html?p=DS

(next two are Vundo and they may be gone once the fix is run)
O2 - BHO: ATLDistrib Object - {93C6313C-9DB4-4694-8BD0-E378C573A9AD} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\geebb.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: geebb - C:\WINDOWS\system32\geebb.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete everything in this folder (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_…refetch-XP.html
If you can't see the Prefetch folder use these instructions: http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Start > Run > type "cleanmgr" without the quotes then OK. Allow the program to run and remove anything it locates. Restart the computer and post the VBG.TXT. the ewido scan results, a new HJT log and your comments.

Thanks…pskelley

Since these nasties can get backed up in System Restore, use the instuctions in the link to get fresh SR files.

Hi pskelley,

First off, I would like to express my great appreciation for your help. I can't believe the hurdles people have to jump through to get rid of these annoying viruses and spyware programs. It really should be illegal to make anything like them!

Before I got your instructions, I deleted Ewido because it seemed to keep crashing on my system. After reading you post, I deleted Spysweeper, and reinstalled ewido. I then followed your directions, and here are the results:
