I have the computer cleaned up except for the Downloader-ACV memory trojan.
Am running WIndows XP with McAfee, Adaware, Zone Alarm, Google pop-up blocker and Ewido-all current.
How do I finally get rid of this instead of just quarantining everyday?

Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, let me say that this computer is far from being clean. You still have a load of nasties including this one running from your services:
O23 - Service: Windows Overlay Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\uiuplnd.exe
See what CastleCops has to say about that one: http://castlecops.com/O23.html
Windows Overlay Components X (Random).exe Reported as the Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Agent.tb TROJAN! by Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Note: This trojan file is located in the Windows or Winnt folder. For more information on Trojan Droppers Click_Here

If you would like help cleaning this mess up, follow these directions in the posted order.

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp and please do not run it until I ask you to.

2) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

4) Since you already have ewido onboard, make sure you update it and then choose scanner. Do a complete system scan arnd remove everything it locates unless you know it is not bad. These instructions may help: http://rstones12.gee.../ewidosetup.htm Please make sure to save the scan report, I need to see it.

5) Let's get rid of that trojan in your Services:
Disable the offending Service
Click Start < Run and type services.msc.
Scroll down to Windows Overlay Components and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Delete the offending Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type Windows Overlay Components and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {216D8B00-A222-5EFB-AFE2-18B3B9D4E281} - C:\WINDOWS\Rbyghdnm.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7A1693A1-AFAF-4F1E-9B05-EEC38A85FBF3} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\g57dln.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Search - {66EAC68A-8609-D40B-1229-D8DDF690200F} - C:\WINDOWS\Rbyghdnm.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cfgmgr52] RunDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\msbk32.dll,DllRun
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vdslfmh] C:\WINDOWS\vdslfmh.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [80v0wij.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\80v0wij.exe /k
O18 - Filter: text/html - {8293D547-38DD-4325-B35A-F1817EDFA5FC} - (no file)
O23 - Service: Windows Overlay Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\uiuplnd.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

7) Enable hidden files&folders..reverse the process when finished.
http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\msbk32.dll >>> file (if there)

C:\WINDOWS\uiuplnd.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\vdslfmh.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\80v0wij.exe >>> file

C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete everything in this folder (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsne...refetch-XP.html

8) Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log and the Ewido scan results in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let me know how you are running now.

When you are completely finished with the removal procedure and are satisfied that the threat has been removed follow these instructions:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

pskelley, I followed your easy to understand directions. By the time I got to Step 4, the follwoing items were not found: 04-HKLM...vdslfmh.exe, 04-HKLM...80v0wij.exe /k and 023-Services: WIndows Overlay Components. Also, in Step 7, only the last item was found, and deleted.
Here are hte updated HJT and esido logs. Thank you very much!!

Hello and thanks for the feedback :) I know I have a tendancy to overkill this stuff, I would rather kill it twice than miss it. Let's see how we did.

If that is the first ewido scan, you have remarkable control over cookies, and ewido was able to kill the trojan it located. I want to say that you can turn off ewido unless you own it. The scanner and updates are free but you do not benefit from anything else after the trial and it does use resources running for no reason.
