Thanks for sending your information. We are sorry for the delay in responding. The volunteers here are swamped and unfortunately not all logs get answered as quickly as we'd like.

If you still need help with your problem, please run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log, then post it here, in this topic .

To post, please use the Post Reply feature, so I will be notified.

Please provide a description of the problem.

Please do not edit your Hijack This log. We need to see the entire logfile, with no revisions.
The help you receive here is free. If you wish to show your appreciation, then you may donate to help keep us online.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. THE CONTENTS OF THE LOG ARE BELOW THE ELABORATION ON THE PROBLEMS.

PROBLEMS:
1) I HAVE HAD TWO UNKNOWN SERVICES START RUNNING RECENTLY WHICH I IDENTIFIED WITH THE HELP OF "THE ULTIMATE TROUBLESHOOTER" AND DISABLED BECAUSE THEY LOOKED SUSPICIOUS AND "TUT" DIDN'T HAVE ANY INFO ON THEM, AND THE FILES NOTED DO NOT EXIST IN THE SPECIFIED FORDER WHEN SEARCHED. THE FILES ARE AS FOLLOWS (EXPORTED FROM TUT):

Status,State,Name,Display Name,Start Mode,Path and Arguments
Unknown,Stopped,ZFGHVQK,ZFGHVQK,Disabled,C:\DOCUME~1\Bob\LOCALS~1\Temp\ZFGHVQK.exe
Unknown,Stopped,GDHXBOW,GDHXBOW,Disabled,C:\DOCUME~1\Bob\LOCALS~1\Temp\GDHXBOW.exe

2) MY WEBROOT SPYSWEEPER 4.5 HAS FOUND TWO KEYLOGGERS, (WINTECTIVE PC AND CYBERVISION) BOTH OF WHICH WERE REMOVED ON A SCAN, AFTER THEY HAD BEEN RUNNING FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME.

3) ROOTKITREVEALER FOUND SOME SMALL ERRORS (80 BYTES OR SO) ON A FEW REGISTRY ENTRIES LIKE THE MICROSOFT ENCRYPION SEED KEY (BUT CAN'T REMEMBER DETAILS)

Hi charliehorse43

About the two files found by TUT. I did not find anything on those files either and they do appear to be disabled. Webroot does seem to have handled those two suspected Keyloggers. Most things of that nature can be prevented from ever getting on your PC and are usually much easier to prevent, than to fix after they are resident. Once we see your PC is clean, I'll offer some suggestions for Programs that will protect you.

Be careful about deleting files that "look bad". Check all files before removing them, or your PC could end up being an expensive paper weight.
I see files every day that "look bad", but after checking them, learn they are necessary and sometimes critical to retain. Live and learn.

Your Hijack This logfile looks to be clean. There is one entry, the 015 in your Trusted Zone. If you do not know and trust it, or do not want it there, it can be fixed with Hijack This.

Lets run a couple of programs that you did not mention using, to see if they can find anything and remove same.

Microsoft Anti-Spyware (Beta)

Please go here to download and follow all instructions.
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:[list=1]
[*]When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
[*]When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
[*]From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
[*]After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack....
[*]If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
[*]When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.
Please save the Ewido report, to be posted here later.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Then, please post back with the Ewido report.

Thanks again. I didn't mention it in my first few posts but I already use both the latest version MicrosoftAntiSpyware and SpyBot, along with my Webroot SpySweeper. Those three anti-malware programs, and Norton AntiVirus, run full scans every night, along with Second Copy doing backups. I am a programmer and network administrator, and intend to get up-to-speed on malware ASAP. As I get more familiar, I hope to be a pro bono contributor also as I think you perform a very laudible service to the on-line community. The entry "015 - Trusted Zone" on my HJT log is a Microsoft site that scans for malware on demand...pretty good for a start -- and looks to me like they will be getting into the anti-malware business in a big way soon. A really like the ewido program and will purchase it shortly..... Below the asterisks is the ewido log. I am familiar with the 2o7 cookie and thought I had it blocked -- obviously not. I just opened Firefox and cleared the cookies and set it not to allow persistant cookies in the future. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOUR NEXT MAIL. Again....and you have probably heard it many time....thanks for this assistance. Hi charliehorse43

It looks like you have things well in hand and should, since you're certainly not a neophite.

Reference getting up to speed on Malware. That is a never ending learning experience. Take a vacation and when you return it's a whole new world. We volunteers spend a good deal of our time playing catchup.

Below, find some suggestions, of which I'm sure you are fully aware.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Download the new Ad-Aware SE version, and follow the instructions on how to do a full scan: http://forums.spywar...showtopic=11150
-reboot after using Ad-Aware SE. Also while there get the VX2 plugin and follow the instructions to run it also.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
http://castlecops.co...tlite7736-.html
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Safe surfing. :wavey:
