Got something that sends my internet explorer to a site to purchase SpyWare software......don't know how to get rid of it....here is the highjackthis.log file.....

Hello krbybng, welcome to the TC. You need to update your version of HijackThis. Delete the HijackThis you have now. Download HijackThis from link in my signature. Save it to a permanent folder (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT). Open and hit scan, then save log. Once it is saved it will open in notepad. Select all from the edit button, copy and paste the results here. Don't fix anything with it yet! Someone experienced with the logs will advise you.

I have cleaned my computer in the past with the help of COYOTE, and I was looking thru other persons troubles and followed some advise prior to this responce....I updated my Ad-Aware software and cleaned things up, and also updated my Spybot software and cleaned things with that.....I then downloaded and ran ewido, which was a first for me....I was amazed at what it had cleaned (over 900 items)....anyway, once I restarted the computer and went to the internet, the same thing happens...I get re-directed to www.systemwarning.com....also, my windows updater tries to update Norton2005, but cannot....THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP.....!!

Double-click the smitRem.exe and it will extract the files to a smitRem folder on your Desktop.


If you already have Ewido, then check for and download updates.
Please download the trial version of ewido security suite. Install ewido security suite and start the program from the icon on your desktop, then check for and download updates. Don't Run Yet.


Reboot to safe mode

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open the smitfraud folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. When the tool completes:


Use Add/Remove Programs and remove:
P2P Networking


Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Open Ewido Security Suite

• Click on scanner
• Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
  • Binder
  • Crypter
  • Archives
• Click on Start Scan
• Let the program scan the machine

While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report

• Click Save report
• Save the report to your desktop

In the Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Empty recycle bin.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log and the Ewido log.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

When the computer is restarted, the first thing it wants to do is go to windoes installer for Norton 2005, but cannot find it so it tells me to uninstall and reinstall. Other than that, my desktop backgroud is differnet than what it used to be (easily changed) and the fonts of everything is different. Other than those 2 noticable items, all seems to be well. The computer goes to the address I desire on the internet explorer at the beginning, so maybe I am cured....again, thanks for the help and let me know if the log files are okay....!

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files (If listed)
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Also, the computer seems to be okay, but maybe sluggish during startup...I also uninstalled and reinstalled NAV2005 today and it fixed the startup error.....again, thanks in advance and let me know how things look...

The computer seems to be okay, but slow during startup (which has been the case for awhile).....but NAV works, ewido works, the internet goes where I want.....just curious, but what are you trying to have me get rid of by using all of these programs...?

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK




If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
