1. There is a _wowexec.exe process running. _ means a space... that is the wowexec has a space before it. 2. There are two iexplore.exe 3. And 6 svchosts.exe running. 4. Download is being interrupted constantly. 5. Mcafee and norton both have not been able to catch anything. 6. Mcafee says hijackthis from download.com is infected with W32.generic something virus. So I do not know if I should run the hijackthis. 7. Adaware has not been able to do anything about this. It catches cookies and other stuff though. 8. cannot run online scan from Panda -- keeps stopping during updating. 9. Spybot wont run ... says needs updated file... and won't update. When I go to the website for the update and click to download the update -- it says the page is forbidden. 10. The computer keeps blinking every once in a while. What can I do?

hi what,

from Merijn, the creator of hjt:

It seems McAfee is detecting the new HijackThis version as W32/Generic.worm!p2p. It is not the first time this happened and probably not the last time either. There is no virus in HijackThis. McAfee incorrectly detects the PE compression method I use on all of my programs as a generic Kazaa worm. I will try to contact McAfee about this and see if the incorrect detection can be removed in their next update

------------------------------------------------------
do this, boot your computer into SAFE MODE. you reach safe mode by tapping the f8 key during reboot. from the option screen chose the first option: SAFE MODE. once in safe mode run your AV software and any other malware app you may have.
also do this:

Click Start>Run then type %temp%
Hit OK. Delete all the files you can.

Empty your Temp folders. Go to Start > Run and type:cleanmgr. Windows will scan. When done check these 3 and press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin
------------------------------------------------------
reboot computer normally, scan with hjt then post the log in this forum:

hi what, other than runnng hjt out of temp dir. the log looks ok as far as malware goes. did you make those proxy changes yourself? ProxyServer = ftp=10.0.0.250:1090;gopher=10.0.0.250:1090;http=10.0.0.250:1090;https=10.0.0.250:1090 if you didnt run hjt and check that line, close windows and click fix checked. then go in to the proxy set up which should be under start>settings>control panel>internet options, connection tab, LAN settings, make sure proxy server isnt checked. should be similiar in XP.
