Also I note that WinFixer keeps popping up even though it is blocked!
I also captured the following re-driect:
http://66.230.183.5/...ahAGXVwrYWI4&r=
That appeared to be redirecting a successful Google Search to either the MicroSoft Updates page or a mature porn site or some off the wall search engine. The result is having to verify the URL is correct and then hit enter again.
Have run SpyBot-Search and Destroy and it has not caught this nuisance!
Thanks <_<

Problem is that redirect stops Google from proceeding to the selected URL. As noted, it would either route to some unknown search engine or to a mature porn site. Any help greatly appreciated. I can't be sure but i think the kids brought this in with an AIM thing.
Best regards,

Hi Joe Rodriguez:

Please print these instructions, or copy and past this text into a Notepad file to place on your desktop and review as you work.

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from a Zip file or from Temporary folders because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

Next:
Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):[list]C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcyw.dll
[*]Press Enter to continue with the fix.
[*] Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
staff then press enter:

[*]At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\wycdd.*
[*]Press Enter to continue with the fix.
[*]The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
[*]In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
  • O2 - BHO: ATLDistrib Object - {3FE36807-69ED-45D1-B9BE-85C0E3F75B6A} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcyw.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddcyw - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcyw.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: gebca - C:\WINDOWS\

    The following are recommended fixes:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: AOLTBSearch Class - {EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoTKit] C:\hp\bin\AUTOTKIT.EXE

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Please boot into SAFE MODE:

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcyw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\juvnxojm.dll
C:\Program Files\Updates from HP\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe
C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll
C:\hp\bin\AUTOTKIT.EXE

Then please Exit Explorer, boot into Normal Mode and enable hidden files.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Please use the Post Reply feature to reply, so I will be notified.
The help you receive here is free. If you wish to show your appreciation, then you may donate to help keep us online.

Hi Joe Rodriguez:

The problem does seem to have been removed. If your PC is performing up to standard, then it's almost certain. I do not think the logfile will be needed. If it is, it should be on your desktop, in the VundoFix folder.

No problem with delays of this length, I'm working on your schedule.

Lets run a couple of scans and see if anything can be found.

Microsoft Anti-Spyware (Beta)

Please go here to download and follow all instructions.
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

Next:

Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:[list=1]
[*]When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
[*]When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
[*]From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
[*]After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack....
[*]If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
[*]When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.
Please save the Ewido report, to be posted here later.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Next:
Close all Windows leaving only HijackThis running.
Place a check against each of the following.:

O2 - BHO: AOL Toolbar Launcher - {7C554162-8CB7-45A4-B8F4-8EA1C75885F9} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: AOL Toolbar - {DE9C389F-3316-41A7-809B-AA305ED9D922} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: mljge - C:\WINDOWS\

Again thanks! MS IE is a bit slower than Netscape when doing a search but I'll take that over the re-direct I was getting before. Much appreciated!

Best regards,

Hi Joe Rodriguez,

You're welcome and no problem with the delay. Gives me time to take a breath.
That's very good news indeed, that the initial problems have been resolved.

I've been using Firefox and have found it to be up to the job. It boots a bit slower than IE, without some tweaking, but given the dangers of using IE on the Net, well worth the slight delay.

Here's a link to download the Firefox browser.

http://www.mozilla.org/

That's a very clean Hijack This logfile.

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if Malware infects a computer with this operating system the Malware can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Download the new Ad-Aware SE version, and follow the instructions on how to do a full scan: http://forums.spywar...showtopic=11150
-reboot after using Ad-Aware SE. Also while there get the VX2 plugin and follow the instructions to run it also.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
http://castlecops.co...tlite7736-.html
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Safe surfing. :wavey:
