[Izzy]

Hi there. I found this site while trying to unload an IE Plugin that Spyware Doctor said was in my PC. It was the only program to recognize this as a problem. Can you advise me on any of the obvious offenders from my log and I will try and researh the rest and clean up my pc from all those @(*&^&^# ppl who have nothing better to do than screw with a poor girls computer?

Hello Izzy, welcome to the forum.

Important: Do this before any fix.

Please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

The reason we do this is Hijackthis creates backup files just in case you'd need to restore one and we'll be cleaning out the temp files.



After the above:


Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.



Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.4 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.06 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

1. Launch Ad-Aware SE and run the WebUpdate feature. (Click on the Globe icon > Click connect > Click OK > Click Finish.)
2. Set up the Configurations as follows:
-- Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
-- Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
-- Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
3. Click "Proceed"
4. Click "Scan Now"
5. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
6. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
7. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
8. When the scan has completed, select Next.
9. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
10. Check the box next to each "target family" you wish to remove.
11. Click next > Click OK.



Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Hi there. Thanks for the response. I've run everything I could on my pc except TM housecall won't run on my pc. I'm having lot's of freezing and tried to reinstall ie6. I tried to download some stupid emoticons and I think it caused more trouble. Appreciate your help.

Download Pocket Killbox version 2.0.0.175

If you already have Killbox first ensure it is this version !.

Then double-click on the killbox.exe program.


Start Killbox and click on Tools->Delete Temp Files.
Then select the option labeled Delete on reboot.

Do not close killbox, and open notepad, by clicking on Start, then Run, and typing notepad.exe and pressing the OK button.


When notepad is open, copy and paste the following bolded text into the notepad screen. You do this by highlighting each of the below bolded filenames and then pressing Control-C on your keyboard. Then click on the open notepad windows and press Control-V to paste the contents into the notepad.

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\default.inf

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu and select Paste from Clipboard.


Still in Killbox, click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click No at the Pending Operations prompt.

Hi there. I downloaded the proper version of Killbox but after I select Tools>Delete temp files there is no option to select "delete on reboot". It does say "Delete selected temp files". I don't want to make an error so can you let me know if this is the same button you are speaking about. Thanks.

Sorry, lost my mind for a second, ok maybe two seconds. I went to the actual drop menu Options instead of looking at the first screen. I did what you said and it is no longer there however I do get the problem of certain files in Spyware Doctor that I also can not find manually. They are usually in the Documents and settings\"me"\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\DNPZOSSQ\sd[1].txt

Spyware Doctor says the threat is elevated on these. I commonly get files in this location that I can not find manually. Every thing else is going smoothly it seems. My pc is hanging a lot which it never did before and I'm not sure if it's cuz of the shitty CPU usage. No idea how to pep my pc up. I go to pcpitstop and usually follow what it says there. Spyware Doctor, Counterspy, Ewido, Adaware, Spybot S&D, Rogers Yahoo Online Protection (CA) are the freebies I have and I bought Registry Mechanic.
