I am getting Norton pop up warnings for Downloader.trojan
the object name is : C:\WINDOWS\system32\PMNNK.DLL

I have run The Norton Vundo removal tool, It comes back clean...

OK,
I took matters into my own hands after looking at other posts.

I ran Vundofix and typed in PMNNK.DLL and KNNMP.

I deleted 020Winlogon Notify: PMNNK - C:\windows\system32\kmnnp.dll (no file)

The computer is running good now, and Norton comes back clean.

DOES MY HJT File look OK?

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix© to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix© folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix© folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

    Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstt.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

    Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\ttstv.dll
    This will be the vundo filename spelled backwards.
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.

Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following,

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00DBDAC8-4691-4797-8E6A-7C6AB89BC441} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnnk.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {FC148228-87E1-4D00-AC06-58DCAA52A4D1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstt.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: pmnnk - pmnnk.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtstt - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstt.dll (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnnk.dll (file missing)
(no file)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstt.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: pmnnk - pmnnk.dll (file missing)
Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.


If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Let the system reboot.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

System set to all files
safe mode

In hijack this, The following file was NOT found.
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00DBDAC8-4691-4797-8E6A-7C6AB89BC441} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnnk.dll (file missing)

The other 4 were.

In Windows Explorer, No files were found.

Pocket Killbox tells me "The files do not seem to exist"

Spybot S&D lets you kill the 04's, the startups. Start Spybot click mode at the top left, make sure that advanced mode is checked. Then click on tools on the lower left. Then system startup, to the right is a double arrow bar click it to expand. Now clicking on a value you will get a description of the command line. Removing the green check mark will stop the startup, should you decide that you need or want it back just replace the check mark. Restarting your PC will complete the change. If you would like to speed up the boot time of your computer. ;) Log looks clean. :)
