kscinst,

Welcome to the forum, :D we have some work ahead of us to get rid of the infection you have, you may want to print this out as you will have to disconnect from the internet for the fixes to work

Lets do this, first download and install these two programs but don't run them yet.

Download and install Ewido security suite.
Ewido Security Suite
* When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu
* Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop for it to double-click.
o Click on update
o You should see Update Complete when done.
o Now close out the program

Download and Install CCleaner
o Dont run it yet

SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS

* Click on MY COMPUTER
* Then on your C: Drive
* Then to TOOLS/ FOLDER OPTIONS/ VIEW
* Choose the radio button to SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
* Take the checkmark out of HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES
* Then APPLY/ OK

* Don't forget to reverse this once your computer is clean

Reboot your computer into Safemode

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

* Now Click Start>> Run>> Type in Services.msc and Click OK!
* Scroll that list and locate Command Service (cmdService)
* Right Click that entry and Select Properties and change it to Disabled

* Run HJT / Misc Tools/ Delete an NT Service and copy and paste this into the box Command Service and click ok
* Close out HJT

Now open Ewido
o Click on scanner.
o Run a full system scan
o Let the program scan the machine.
o While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK.
o Put a check in the box to Perform action on all infections"
o Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report.
o Click Save report.
o Save the report to your desktop.

Now run HJT> Scan Only and put a checkmark in the following entries, HJT should be the only window you have open, and click on Fix Checked

Hello kscinst, :D

You have an infection that is difficult to remove, there are varients of this infection poping up.

Lets do this......This is only the first part of the fix, follow the directions to post the results from these scans.

Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection!
  • Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!
  • Download Track qoo
    • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
*** If you get an error telling you that you don't have permission to download Track goo you will have to register at our sister site and be logged in, but just like Tom Coyote, its free.
Geeks To Go

Reboot your computer into Safemode

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly, this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

kscinst,

You have so much garbage on your system that it is very difficult to sort through it all, we need to step back one time and clean up a lot of things so we can move forward.

* Start Ewido again
* Make sure you update the program
* Close it out, don't run it yet

Reboot back into Safemode and make sure that windows is stll enabled to show all files and folders. We need to run this all from Safemode, don't reboot until I tell you to.

Now run HJT> Scan Only and put a checkmark in the following entries, HJT should be the only window you have open, and click on Fix Checked Make sure you don't miss any. All the 016s are safe to remove, they wll just come back if and when you need them, just remove the ones I have listed.

* Go to My Computer/ C: Drive/ Documents and Settings/ Every User on this computerLocal Settings
and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Temp and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Prefetch and remove all the contents of the Prefetch Folder.
But not the Prefetch folder itself.

NOW RE-BOOT NORMALLY

* Open INTERNET EXPLORER
* Click on the TOOLS MENU
* Then INTERNET OPTIONS
* At the GENERAL TAB (which should be the first tab you are currently on),
* click on the DELETE FILES BUTTON and put a checkmark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT.
* Then press the OK BUTTON . This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes.
* When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Now Empty your Recycle Bin

Download the following reg file to your desktop. Fixssk.reg When it is finished downloading double-click on it and say Yes when it asks if you would like to merge the data into the registry.

Paste a new HJT log and the log from Ewido into this thread.

kscinst,

Lets cover a few things,

* Until we get your log clean, I advise you not to surf the net, just reply to this thread and then close out your internet connection, you may be at risk downloading other programs that this stuff attracts.

* I have access to numerous other forums that I can find out about new infections, fixes and whatnot, I have found other posters that have the same identical infection you have and were able to rid there system of it, I need you to follow my instructions to the letter or they won't work.

* In regards to Safemode, there is no way that you can't delete files and folders in Safemode because there are no running program in Safemode. You are going into Safemode, aren't you?? If you are having a problem accessing it, please let me know and I can guide you through it. Some computers load safemode real quick and there are some that you have to try two or three times, you have to get the timing down real well.

So lets run through this again with some new twists...So print this out

* Close Internet Explorer and keep it closed throughout the entire removal process.
* Enter the control panel by clicking on the Start menu, then clicking on Run.
* Now type control in the Open field and press the OK button.
* Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon.
* Look for and uninstall the following entries if found in the Add/Remove Programs window.

Surf Sidekick
Surf Sidekick 2
Surf Sidekick 3

It may prompt about whether or not you are sure you want to remove this program. Reply Yes to this prompt. It will then uninstall the program.

If there is no Add/Remove Programs entry for these programs, click on Start, then Run and type the following in the Open: field:

C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe /u

Press the OK button. A code will be displayed that it will ask you to enter. Enter this code and reboot.
Once back to your desktop continue with the rest of the fix.

* Open HijackThis
* When the program starts, double-click on the HijackThis icon and then click on the Scan button.
* Put a checkmark next to the following entries if they exist: and click on Fix Checked

Some of these are your start pages, you can reset them once your clean.

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: repairs302972961.dll

* Exit HijackThis.

* Reboot your computer into Safemode

* Delete the following directories if they exist:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\SurfSideKick
C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\

* Search for the following files and if found delete them:

Sskknwrd.dll
Ssk.log
SskUpdater.exe
Ssk.exe

Reboot normally

Download the following reg file to your desktop. Fissk.reg When it is finished downloading double-click on it and say Yes when it asks if you would like to merge the data into the registry.

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

* Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

* You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

* Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C.
Under What to Sweep, check every box.

* Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Restart your computer, and then please copy and paste the SpySweeper log into this thread along with a new HJT log.

ok..well waiting for your reply, I went through and removed all the conflicting programs. The Zone Alarms, Norton, BPS ect... Booted back to MSDos...not through windows, but from a cd. Doing that procedure allowed me acess to the files and folders of the Sidekick and wiped them out, rebooted into safe mode, removed all other traces of every thing and now its all gone. Thanks for the insight in this matter, guess no matter how advanced Windows gets, its still a good thing to hang on to the DOS info I learned way back when before Bill Gates had his name attached to Microsoft.

Good Morning kscinst,

These two entries are related to the infection that you have, try removing both these lines with HJT in Safemode

* O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINDOWS\system32\yyyqyc.exe reg_run
* O20 - AppInit_DLLs: repairs302972961.dll

While in Safemode, look for these two files and delete them if found.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\yyyqyc.exe

Look into either
C:\WINDOWS or
C:\WINDOWS\system32
for this one, if its not there, so a search for it.

repairs302972961.dll

If those files are not there or you can't delete them, download Pocket Killbox to your desktop, or any location that you can find and run the program.

When it opens, type the full path to the file you would like to delete in the field and press the Delete File button (looks like a red circle with a white X). It will prompt you to reboot, allow it to do so, and hopefully your file will now be deleted.

1. C:\WINDOWS\system32\yyyqyc.exe reg_run
2. C:\WINDOWS\repairs302972961.dll or try
3. C:\WINDOWS\system32\repairs302972961.dll

If either of the files are not present, Killbox will let you know.

I would like you to post the report from the Spysweeeper Scan, the reason being is that I may show us some thing that is hidden.

After you remove the above entries and files, post a new HJT log along with the Spysweeeper Scan Report

kscinst,

Did you by chance run HJT Scan and Save a Log file in Safemode, you log is missing so many entries that its not giving me the whole picture, we use HJT in Safemode alot to make changes but we always need a log in normal mode. So I can't see if Surfsidekick is completely gone or not.

Spysweeper shows that you may have a rootkit infection, a rootkit is something that loads before windows is loaded and goes undected, Spysweeper is the only program that we know of that detects this infection.

Lets do this....

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download AproposFix © Swandog46 from here:
Aproposfix

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop.
Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log,
along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.
