I "inherited" a computer that had a bunch of spyware. I ran "Spyware Doctor" and it got rid of 1780 items. Things seem to be working ok with one execption. When I start Windows, media player automatically loads up. Anyone know how to correct this. I have also posted my hijack log below. Thanks for any help. Post here or email me @ [removed]

Thank you for your reply. I realize how time consuming it is to reach out to everyone asking for help. I looked in the msconfig file and saw real player was selected to run at startup. I de-selected it and that corrected my problem. After purchasing and running spyware doctor, everything seems to be ok. Do you have an opinion on "spyware doctor"? I am new at this and really bought it because it was one of the first progrmas I came across. That being said, It seemed to work really well and is very easty to use. Thanks again for your time. Tom
Hi tomco2000 I did bit of homework for myself and found Adaware, Spybot-S&D and Spy Sweeper among the best or top three, also spyware blaster is another proggie which acts like spyware shield and it protects your system like a firewall from spywares, also please ensure you have a good firewall installed on your pc, Norton or Mcafee or ZoneAlarm are just some nice ones, well no single Anti-Spyrware is perfect so you have to use them in combination, just to add Adaware and spybot and spyware blaster are free for personal use and you have to pay 30 dollars to buy spy sweeper. Adaware you can download from lavasoft site spybot from safernetworking and spyware blaster from javacool also if you think you want to buy spy sweeper you can get that from webroot. regards

Hello Tom,

Glad to hear that the computer is working better for you now. I'll leave you with my security recommendations below to help prevent infections in the future. This contains links to many of the programs that Bradie mentioned.

I can not comment on Spyware Doctor as I've never used the program. It is not on the list of Rogue anti-spyware programs so it is a legitimate program.

——————————————————

I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

AVG AntiVirus - Free antivirus program if you currently are not using one.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Here are two very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D and Adaware SE

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read the following posts to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
