We are sorry for the delay in replying to you.

If you still require help, please Move HijackThis to Permanent Folder:
You are running HijackThis from a Temp directory. These are cleaned up on a regular basis thus the program will be removed.
  • Go to Start > My Computer > and double click on C:.
  • Now right click an open area and click New > folder and change the folder name to HJT.
  • Move HijackThis from the Temp folder into this new folder.
Post a fresh Hijackthis log as a reply to this thread.

I'll receive an e-mail notification of your reply and will respond as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

From comparing the two Hijackthis logs, many legitimate items have been removed. You are also now using an old version of HijackThis.

Update to HijackThis 1.99.1.
  • Open HijackThis and click config.. < Misc. Tools, scroll down and click Check for Update Online.
Post a new HijackThis log from version 1.99.1 as a reply to this thread.
Thanks for reply– You mention many legitimate items have been removed–

Anything I should have? Is Yahoo Messenger a problem?

Thanks for your attention.
Here is the new log from 1.99.1 version.

Hello EdLangley and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

Yahoo Messenger is not a problem to have on the computer. You just need to make sure when using it, to not click on any unknown web links even if they are sent by "friends". This is how some of the newer virus/worms are being sent.

The legitimate items that were removed are not needed but the programs may not have the same functionality as they previous would have had.

The new log v1.99.1 log appears clean. Since you stated that the computer is running much faster for you, I'll give you my normal security recommendations now.

I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Here are two very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.
