Hello sumyunguy and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

You have quite a collection of Trojans/Worms on your computer. One of them in particular will record all of your keystrokes so as soon as the system is clean, you will need to change all logins and passwords on the computer.

Step 1
I would like to get a copy of a couple of the files from you to pass on to the Anti-virus and Anti-Trojan vendors to help in there detection of them.

Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and End Process on the following items:

winsvcc.exe
mspatch32.exe

Create a folder on the desktop by right-clicking an empty area on the desktop and select New < Compressed (zipped) Folder. Name the folder Trojans.

Now navigate to the following files and right click on them and choose copy. Open the newly created Trojans folder and right-click and choose paste. Do this for both files. Once both files are inside the Trojans folder, email it to Click here. Be sure to include a link to this thread in the text of the email.

C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\Local Settings\Temp\winsvcc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mspatch32.exe

Step 2
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

All went well I think, although was unable to find C:\WINDOWS\System32\slssystem.exe
from step 4.

Thanks!
That log looks so much better. :)
Just one entry remains to be removed.

Open HijackThis, run a scan, and check the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = C:\WINDOWS\secure32.html

With all other windows and browsers closed, click Fix checked.

Reboot the computer and post a fresh HijackThis log as a reply to this thread.
Let me know how the computer is working now.
All seems to be running fine

Thank you again for all your help.

One of the files you sent us was a .pf file. They come from the Windows Prefetch folder and are quite useless for analysis. But their presence shows that the actual file at one time must have been run on your system. Please have another good look. The winsvcc.exe file is a new virus. Only recognized as such by the heuristics of NOD32 and Arcavir. I have sent it on to the virus companies and am awaiting thier analysis. Will keep you posted. Thanks for sending them in. Regards, Pieter
Thank you for the information, Pieter.

——————————————————

sumyunguy,

I would like you to check for this file to make sure it is truely gone now. C:\WINDOWS\System32\mspatch32.exe

You may need to show all files to see it if it remains.
  • Double-click My Computer.
  • Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
If the file is found, please delete it.

——————————————————

I'll give you my recommendations now to help keep the computer clean.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.

MOST IMPORTANT: You Need to Update Windows and IE to get all the Latest Security Patches to protect your computer from the malware that is on the internet.
I recommend going to the following link and update to SP2. This adds more security and extra features including a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer.
Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer Updates

Here is a great link that explains the procedure for updating to SP2.
Here is a link that better explains the reasons for installing SP2.

If you are on a slow connection or dial-up, you may want to Order the Windows XP SP2 CD from Microsoft. This is provided free of charge from Microsoft.

I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Here are two very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read the following posts to learn how to better secure your computer.
"So how did I get infected in the first place"
"Securing Your PC After An Attack"

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
Additional information from one of the trojan analists:

This one got the name of "CLSLATE" for now - it checks a machine for the ability to relay spam and other parameters and
then contacts a certain website which provides a script to this puppy.

alsocom,

Considering this information it may be a good idea to check for the presence of a rootkit.

Regards,

Pieter
Thanks again, Pieter. Will do.

——————————————————

sumyunguy,

To use RootKit Revealer please make sure you are logged in as an Administrator to the computer.
  • Please download and unzip Rootkit Revealer to your desktop.
