Pls help me remove The persons said it was shutting down so i removed the virus and figured i will do a complete tweak, spyware and malware even though they did not ask me to. Thanks for your help in advance.

Okay here is my latest hijack this log I think i have removed all of the spy ware except somthing called altnet which i cannot remove.

Hello bigfoot9090 and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O2 - BHO: Band Class - {00F1D395-4744-40f0-A611-980F61AE2C59} - C:\WINDOWS\dsr.dll (file missing)

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.


Step 2
We will be removing a couple of entries in the registry so we need to back it up first as a pre-caution.
Go to Start < Run and type regedit in the Run Box to open the Registry Editor. Click File than Export…. Make sure "All" is selected in the "Export range" section at the bottom. Save the file as registry backup and save as All Files.

Navigate to the this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altnet\ and right click the Altnet folder, select permissions, then advanced and see if you (meaning whoever you are logged in as) have Permission = Full permission and Apply To = keys and subkeys.

If not subkeys, click the owner tab, highlight your name and check the box to replace owner, apply and OK. Now you are back on the Security tab! Highlight your name on the security tab and check the Allow full control box. Apply and click advanced again and you should have another entry for your name with keys and subkeys.

Repeat for this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altnet\Dashboard\


Now navigate to this location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altnet\.
Right click on the Altnet folder in the left pane and select delete.


Step 3
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.

There is one other thing that i cant remove and that is the best offers in add remove programs. when selecting remove it gives the error cant find c://win….boncar iinvalid file or web address.

Remove uninstall entry with HijackThis
  • Open Hijackthis and click None of the above, just start the program.
  • Click Config… < Misc Tools < Open Uninstall Manager.
  • Scroll down to the best offers entry and click on it once, then select Delete this entry.
The new HijackThis log appears clean. Are you having anymore problems with the computer? Are the Altnet entries gone?
If everything is working well now, I'll give you some recommendations to better protect the computer.

Yes every thing appears to be working fine. I did uninstall it by deleting that entry in hjt misc tools. Your advise is greatly appreciated, what free programs are out there to protect this pc. When i givemy freind his pc back i give him your advise. thanks for your help

Your welcome. Glad to be able to help you out. :)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.


I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Here are two very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.
