First thing we want to do is create a new Restore Point. Click the Start button. Point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. You want to create a New Restore Point. If that works: Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HJT log file into this thread.
System Restore point successful

On the Troubleshooting tab, uncheck Disable System Restore.
Click OK. Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart Windows.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.

Safe Surfing. :D
:P Thanks!

I do have 2 items in question:

1- found this text file titled "RunOnceEx Log.txt" in WINDOWS, and altho uncertain whether I understand it, some of what I see concerns me.

And 2- this from my Ad-Aware, which is just annoying

Ad-Aware SE Scanning Result, 10-15-2005 11:03:23 PM

Type Description Location No. Items
MRU List most recent application to use microsoft directdraw HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:software\microsoft\directdraw\mostrecentapplication\ 1

"RunOnceEx Log.txt" I'm sure that's from one of the scans / fixes you ran. You can remove it if you want.

Run Ad-Aware like this:

1. Launch Ad-Aware SE and run the WebUpdate feature. (Click on the Globe icon > Click connect > Click OK > Click Finish.)
2. Set up the Configurations as follows:
– Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
– Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
– Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
3. Click "Proceed"
4. Click "Scan Now"
5. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
6. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
7. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
8. When the scan has completed, select Next.
9. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
10. Check the box next to each "target family" you wish to remove.
11. Click next > Click OK.
ok great! (on the RunOnceLog)

That's IE's default. You can accept it.

is Thank You for the links to free firewall & antivirus, would they not conflict with Norton?

You only want one Anti-Virus program running. So stay with Norton's if you want.
