Hello sprng2rn, :D

Sorry for the delay but we are just swamped with infected computers. If you have not resolved your issue and still need my assistance, pleae move HJT to its own folder and post a new HJT log.

DO THIS FIRST
Your HIJACKTHIS program is current, but it is very important that it resides in its own folder.
We will use Hijackthis (HJT) to make changes to your system and HJT will make backups of those changes,
If HJT is not in its own folder, those backups could be lost.

Easy to fix,
* just go to MY COMPUTER > YOUR C:\ DRIVE and create a new folder and name it HIJACKTHIS .
* Now scroll to where you have HJT currently, right click on the HJT icon and select CUT .
* Now open the new folder you just created and right click within that folder and select PASTE .
* Now HJT should reside in C:\HIJACKTHIS\HIJACKTHIS.EXE

Now post a new log by running HJT to Scan and Save a Log File, when the log open is Notepad, go to EDIT/ SELECT ALL- EDIT/ COPY and paste the entire contents into this thread.
Hello sprng2rn, welcome to the forum

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Use Add/Remove Programs and remove: If Listed.
MOSEARCH

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press the F8 key until the startup menu appears.

Choose the Safe Mode option then press Enter.

Delete this folder if listed:
C:\PROGRAM Files\COMMON Files\SYSTEM\MOSEARCH

Search for and delete this files if listed:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\iexploreD.exe <<—Be VERY careful with this file. Make sure you only delete this file that has the D in it. iexploreD.exe

To configure Windows to show all files

Do the following:
In Windows, on the Windows desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.

On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
On the View tab, uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.

Uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then, under the "Hidden files" folder, click Show hidden files and folders.
If you see a warning message, click Yes.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Thank you to both ken545 and LDTate for responding and warm welcome!

Okay, now I'm really confused! - Which of the replies to reply to :P
So given my log was as old and I've tried a variety of things since, I'm posting a fresh log here before following instructions from LDTate - Hate to waste anyone's time, but fresh log seems best?

Despite any wait, THANK YOU SO MUCH for being here!

*following log iswithout removing the HKEY AdAware reports (and that I remove each time I start/restart my cpu)

sprng2rn, You waited so long for a reply and then got 2 within a few minutes :D , just follow LDTates fix and post a new log when done and one of us will follow through and make sure your all cleaned up.
ken545 - Hey! it's great to feel wanted! :D Okay, I followed all instructions carefully, rec'd a few warnings, etc. 1- after "fix checked" in HJT, rec'd Spywareguard message noting change to IE; selected "keep new settings", however that brought up a Blue screen with following: Error: 0E: 018F: BFF8E64B; upon hitting "any key" rec'd: SGBHP caused gen. protection fault in module USER.EXE at 0013:00000167 upon clicking on "Close" rec'd same Blue screen error as above could not soft-boot, had to shut down 2- upon restart, Windows could not find C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Adobe\Callibration\AdobeGammaLoader.exe C:\ProgramFiles\CompaqKnowledgeCenter\bin\silent.exe C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Acrobat6.0\Distillr\acrotray.exe and C:\ProgramFiles\SpywareGuard\sgmain.exe 3- MOSEARCH was not in Add/Remove programs 4- restarted in safe mode; searched/found/removed MOSEARCH file 5- search/found/removed C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM\iexploreD.exe On Reboot to scan/post new HJT log receive message: Windows cannot find C:\HijackThis.exe DESPITE returning to site and redownloading three times and once to a brand new HJT folder - so unable to post new log??? (scratchin' my head) Have not done much more with cpu yet, was too anxious to get your input on inability to execute HJT program.
Bad news… aside from getting into browser, receive "Windows cannot find… .exe" for every program I've attempted thus far. So I'm down until advised on how to get into/restore from the HJT backup!
sprng2rn,

Sorry your having problems, scroll to the HJT folder , open HJT and click on the View the list of backups Highlight everything in that folder and click on Restore Then we need to go back to square one and reexamin your log.
Well, there is a back-up folder, but no getting to it with HJT since I can't open programs of any kind - in fact I'm out here on the internet without any kind of protection. There is a back-up folder however, but just a long list of items on my explorer screen with no "restore" options to speak of. I imagine I'll need to use system restore?
well, spoke too soon - windows cannot find system restore either! pretty strange can't get any programs, but can fly the internet HELP! :o
sprng2rn

Lets try opening Internet Explorer and going to Tools/ Windows update and download the latest Critical Updates.

Were looking for this update KB891711.EXE

Can you open up System Restore and go back to a date about a week ago?
below is the message I get Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page. Select from any of the following pages for information about Windows Update services, or send us your feedback. Windows Update Home Page About Windows Update Support Information You can also get online support if you are having problems with Windows Update. Send error number to Microsoft (0x800C0005) Note This sends error information but does not create a support incident; you may or may not receive a response.
Cannot access System Restore Posted error message received (above) when using Win update Tried work-around by searching for - downloaded - program would not open Tried work-around by using "Open" rather than "Save", rec'd error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item"
