Sorry, reacting a bit rash here… last post refers to downloading the KB891711.EXE update Whether I download it or open it from the Windows site - still unable to run, receiving "cannot find" or "do not have permission" messages respectively
To restore your computer settings from an earlier time: Click the Start button. Point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. Choose Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next. Click a day on the calendar, click the restore point description, and then click Next. Make sure you have closed all your files and open programs, and then click OK to close the dialog box. Click Next. Your system will revert to its previous settings, your time will return to its usual dimensions, and you can go full speed ahead.
I have tried that and receive following message: Windows cannot find C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RESTORE\RSTRUI.EXE You may have typed the name incorrectly in the Run dialog, or another open program cannot find a System file. To search for a file, click the Start butten, and then click Search
My gut reaction is a User file has been deleted; I do seem to be able to access some things from Explorer, but have resisted toying with anything I have no knowledge of as well as limiting my use to checking for updates to this thread
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\iexploreD.exe <<—Be VERY careful with this file. Make sure you only delete this file that has the D in it. iexploreD.exe

Did you by chance delete iexplore.exe also?

Do you have your Windows ME CD?
I do not know how to comfirm whether I deleted Iexplore.exe I do recall specifically searching for and locating a file "iexploreD.exe" and deleting it (that D caught my eye and have had a gut feeling about it since my problems began - so was quite an "aha" moment when found in your instructions!) I will have to search for CD, may not have it
Yes, it appears no EXE files are working. Did search for Iexplore, notepad and msconfig - all 3 come up, get same "cannot find" message when clicking on the exe that comes up for each - altho can open saved docs and notepad txt files
Did so, and altho unable to access System Properties to Disable System Restore, went ahead and ran anyway :weee: it enabled me to go back and do so along with the icons back to my Systray (including my NAV!!!)

Report returned "No YaHa on System"

Yes. You can change it later if you want.

Scan and post a new HJT log.

could I ask you to please send a copy of the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\iexploreD.exe file to submit_stuffATxs4all.nl for analysis? (replace 'AT' by @)

Please put this link also:
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?show…5&gopid=218298&

We're pretty sure it doesn't belong on your computer, and we'd like to have a closer look at it! We'd also want to send a sample to developers in the security field, if necessary.
