Hello kstirling , welcome to the TC. Your HJT log shows some bad guys in there that removing Norton Internet Security won't fix. "copy/paste" a new HJT log file into this thread.
I'm afraid I gave this computer back to my friend who lives an hour or so away, so now have no access to it. I did kind of realise that things like svchost & igfxtray were lurking, but couldn't get rid of them try as I might, and they were desperate for their PC back, so they are still there. The main symptom is msconfig keeps appearing on startup with "selective startup" highlighted and the programs igfxtray, svchosts, winupdates, ctfmon and a few others selected. Unticking them makes no difference and they appear again the next startup. If there are any steps you could tell me, I could phone Jamie and ask him to try these. I could maybe get him to become a member and post his log in a new thread, however, he is not computer lit and may struggle! Anyway, that's the story just now. Thanks very much for gatting back to me. Rgds Katie
After you uncheck a item, you'll be using Selective startup.
When you see the box popup that tells you that, just put a Check in the Box to not show that when you startup
I know, but every time you do this, it makes no difference and reverts back to selective startup and msconfig appears when you boot up. Rgds
