Hi,:(
My system was recently infected from a spyware PokaPoka63 . I ran an antivirus scan with Norton and found Bloodhound.Morphine . I finally uninstalled it with an Elitebar removal tool. But subsequent scans with Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE and SpyBot Search & Destroy revealed files that could not be deleted even in safe mode and system startup. And this PokPoka63 comes back when i connect to the internet . So I restricted Internet Explorer from accessing the internet via Zone Alarm but due to popup windows every 2 mins it sks for permission to connect or stayoffline which is annoying. I emptied all cookies looked in temp folder nd found some disturbing contents. Here they are - I the temp folder of IE i found 2 silent setup files from SearchMiracle.com which open a invisible browser window and self installs. I deleted them both but a file remains. Also i found its install log too. I currently have Norton Antivirus 2003 with latest definitions(Subscription still running), Zone Alarm standard, Lavasoft Ad-Aware Se Personal with latest definition files, Spybot search & destroy also with latest updates and safesurfer popup stopper. So i am concerned that if i install Ewido it will conflict with Norton (Avast and Kerio Friewall did). Pls tell me soon about this and could you please recommend RealTime protection against Spyware so that it doesnt install in the system?I have pasted my Hijackthis log below. Do tell me if you need the Search Miracle log too. I didnt paste it here as it was too long.

Also which IE alternative Browser do you recommend?
Opera 8, Mozilla Firefox or Netscape 8?

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

Please download/unzip this:

LQfix.zip

Reboot in "safe" mode.

on the file you just unzipped (LQfix.bat)

A DOS window will appear. When it is finished running it will say "Done!!" and close.

After it closes, reboot in normal mode and post a new log file in this thread.
:)
Hi,
You told me to download that LQfix.zip file and so i downloaded it and followed your instructions. But in Safemode when i run it the DOS window only displays for a split second and vanishes and I can't see what is written in the DOS window. But I got a view of File Not Found for entries. THE ELITE TOOLBAR HAS BEEN CURRENTLY REMOVED FROM THE SYSTEM BY ME. I NEED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REMOVE IT COMPLETELY AS IT TRIES TO REINSTALL . I HAVE RESTRICTED IT FROM INSTALLING. Here is my HJT log anyway -

Hi,
I did as you told me. Disabled TEATIMER then ran hijackthis fixed the keys you told me. Then went into SAFEMODE and tried to search for the given file names and the VVSN folder. Even the Automated search of Files & Folders and my manual search didnot find all the files but about 3 days ago i myself had deleted the VVSN folder. I had even turned the show all files and folders function on and even the hide system files turned off. Here is my log file after turning TEATIMER on - ( I also have the one before turning it on)

Spyware Guard blocks malicious scripts. I believe you already have that covered:

O23 - Service: ScriptBlocking Service (SBService) - Symantec Corporation - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\SYMANT~1\SCRIPT~1\SBServ.exe

You might get into trouble having two programs trying to do the same thing. So, I'd say Spyware Guard is a "no go".

I have/use Firefox and like it immensely because of the "tabbed browsing" capabilities. I haven't used the other browsers, so I am the wrong person to ask about that.

I'm glad the forums here at TomCoyote.org could be of assistance.

GOD bless you!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Download/install IE-Spyad

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings at Qualsys.com

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
