Dan from Burbank's HJT Log

No. They aren't a threat.I had already found those two instances….should I delete them?
We haven't proved it's a "problem" yet. Also, why did Norton 2005 alert me to this program and call it a serious problem?
I don't get involved with the finances at all. I "work for free" around here. Paypal has to make money somehow to stay in business, but if they tack on a fee, that should be made very clear "up front". If they don't make it clear about this "shipping and handling" fee being tacked on to any monetary contribution, it sounds like an oversight or poor practices on their part. Finally, I contributed $33 to the website….I was only intending to contribute $25, but the Paypal process added $8 for "shipping and handling" so I just decided to go with it, but to tell you the truth, it was a little off-putting….any reason for it?
Back to the business at hand….
Let's do this for now:
Copy the text in the following quote box into Notepad:
Save it to your desktop as ff.bat.dir C:\WINDOWS\System32\usbnl386.* /ah > files.txt
dir C:\WINDOWS\System32\usbnl386.* >> files.txt
notepad files.txt
Now, the ff.bat file on the desktop.
Wait for Notepad window to open up.
Please paste it's contents into your next post.
Also, please do this:
Run Hijack This!.
Click on Open Misc Tools section
To the right of Generate Startuplist log, there are two boxes.
Check them both, then click Generate Startuplist log.
"Copy/paste" the startuplist log into this thread.

Oh, also, my question about Norton was not about the usbnl386.exe file, but about the regscan software. Norton thought it was very evil….
Thanks!
DJ
In this case, we wanted to run the script (we know it's a "nice" one), so you should tell Norton to "register" the "nice" scripts you download.
You are correct about not finding that file. I suppose it could be a "super hidden" file. Even the DOS "dir" command couldn't "see" that file.
The startuplist has shed some light:
[0ee4f534-e5f0-4b4f-9c89-0be3103de7c6] *
StubPath = C:\WINDOWS\System32\bammxmb.exe
Autorun entries from Registry:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\Run
tmmqnse = C:\WINDOWS\System32\tmmqnse.exe
Run the registry search tool again, and search for these items:
bammxmb.exe
tmmqnse.exe
And post the results.
Save it as fixme.reg, and save it on your Desktop.
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\0ee4f534-e5f0-4b4f-9c89-0be3103de7c6]
Then, locate fixme.reg on your desktop and it.
You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".
Copy the file names in the quote box below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing
C (hold the key down, then press C):
C:\WINDOWS\System32\bammxmb.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tmmqnse.exe
Run Killbox.
In Killbox select "Delete on Reboot".
Click File (in the upper left of Killbox), and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.
After the reboot, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

How's the storm going?
DJ
I don't live close to the Gulf Coast.
Please go here:
Silent Runners.org
Download/run the silentrunners.vbs script.
Norton will complain about it, so just tell it to "register" this script - It's safe.
When you run it, click "Yes" to the "Skip supplementary searches".
It will take a few minutes to run.
When it fininshes, it will tell you what text file it put the results in (it will be in the same folder the VBS file was downloaded into).
Open it up with Notepad, and paste it into your next post, please.
Here's the log: Ya, I just noticed that your info says you live next to Dorothy etc….you in Kansas, or in a neighboring state?

Me?? In Kansas??
Please download Process Explorer by Sysinternals from:
Process Explorer.zip
Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe
If you get an error message the first time (I did), just close it and start it again.
In the list of process, find and on:
usbnl386.exe
Click on the Image tab. Tell me what it says is the:
Path
Command line
Current directory
Parent
Then click on the Threads tab and tell me what programs are listed in the box.
Run Process Explorer.
Next double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and click once on each instance of usbnl386.exe then click the kill button.
Once you have done that click OK.
Close Process Explorer.
Now, run Killbox.
In Killbox select "Delete on Reboot".
Paste the next line into the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\usbnl386.exe
Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.
When the machine reboots, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
- Install Ewido security suite
- When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
- Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
- The program will now go to the main screen
- On the left hand side of the main screen click update
- Then click on Start Update
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
After the definitions have been updated, close Ewido.
Do NOT run a scan yet.
Reboot in "safe" mode.
Now, run Ewido, then:
- Click on scanner
- Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin (do not open any folder's or open the windows control panel while the scan is in progress).
- While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
- When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
- Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
- Click Save report.
- Save the report.txt file to your desktop.
Reboot and "copy/paste" a new Hijack This! log file, and the report.txt file from the Ewido scan, into this thread.
I really will try to reply more quickly, since I feel like I just took two steps backwards…..again, thanks so much for the help.
