Please help. I've AdAwared and SpyBotted, torn through the registry and gone half crazy, but as of this writing, I'm actually getting ads popping up while in safe mode! I hope you can help…if you can, I'll be happy to put some $ in the tip jar.

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

O2 - BHO: SDWin32 Class - {A07687E6-F7FD-4EFE-AB6C-619266260A83} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\tfqbf.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINDOWS\System32\lpssxs.exe reg_run

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTask driver] C:\WINDOWS\System32\wintask.exe

O18 - Filter: text/html - {8293D547-38DD-4325-B35A-F1817EDFA5FC} - (no file)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Internet Settings - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dlnetlib.dll

O23 - Service: Windows Overlay Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\mhssbob.exe

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Now, please go to:

Start –> Run

In the box type in services.msc then hit < Enter > (or click OK)

In the Name column for:

Windows Overlay Components

< Double-click > it.

In the dialogue box that pops up, check in the Path to executable box.

It should say: C:\WINDOWS\mhssbob.exe

That's how to be sure you have the right one.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Close the services.msc window.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\windows\mhssbob.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\dlnetlib.dll <— file

c:\windows\system32\lpssxs.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\tfqbf.dll <— file

c:\windows\system32\wintask.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

There are 2 things on the list that may take "more strenuous efforts" to remove, but sometimes we "get lucky"….
thanks for the response. I've done everything you instructed, except that I was unable to delete dinetlib.dll in safe mode. access was denied.

here's my new HJT log:

I'm afraid my first log was done while in safe mode, so you see more things are open at this point. Sorry about that!

Again, thanks for the help!!

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing .

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log. Copy/paste the contents of that log into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing , then press any key to reboot your computer.

After the reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

P.S. - I mayhave to go offline for a while… storms in my area… :o
yikes, sounds ominous! (both the storm and the qoologic bug)

Here are the l2m and HJT logs, in that order:

Download FindQoologic-Narrator.zip save it to your Desktop.
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.ph…=post&id;=134981

Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQoologic.
Open the FindQoologic folder. Preferable to your desktop.
Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat file to run it.

Wait until a text opens, post it in a reply to your thread.

It may take a while to run, so be patient.

After you post again, it may take me some time to sort out the results, depending on the size of the log file.

Please go to these free online file checkers:

And submit this file for a virus scan:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\usbnl386.exe

Post back with the results.
:)
well, I'm confused… I tried to find that file (usbnl386.exe), but it's not in c:\windows\system32. However, my task manager listed it as an active process. I ended the process, and also did a search of the registry, where I found one mention of it at: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21…\Software\Microsoft\InternelExplorer\ExplorerBars\ {C4EE…\FilesNamedMRU but I still don't know where the .exe file is living. However, I'm happy to report that the computer is behaving wonderfully at this point. woohoo!! Very happy guy here. I'm definitely going to PayPal the site for $25….do they share that w/you? DJ
Please download/unzip this:

RegScan.vbs

on Regscan.vbs, and search for this:

usbnl386.exe

Paste the contents of the results into your next post.
