Hijack this log...pc running slow.

For no apparent reason my pc is running like a dog all of a sudden. It takes a long time for programs to load at windows startup. Also when it shuts down it hangs on the blue shutting windows screen for a long time and the hd activity led is on steady. Any ideas, thanks.

You have windows updates set on auto. Connect to the internet and let it update all night. I belive that there was an update about two weeks ago that was a big one.


Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following,

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.


And can you post a log from ever user on the computer.
Clearly indicate which log belongs to which user, the type of rights the account has (Admin or limited),
and for clarity post each log into a new post.

Thanks Eagle. This pc is single user pc, there are no other users setup. Windows update did automatically install updates about a week or two ago. I just ran update and it didn't find any new updates. Also I don't know if this has anything to do with it but sometimes when I'm online and I click on a bookmark or a link I'll get a small window that says alert on top with the following message, there's a exclamation mark in a yellow triangle and it wil say for example www.ebay.com could not be found. Please check the name and try again. I have to click the bookmark or link one or two times then the page will load. This problem started around the same time. The only other thing I did was to upgrade zone alarm from ver 5.5 to 6.0. Here's the latest log.

I have had some others complain about ZA sence the update.
I use it but have not updated it. ;)

If you still have the old set up uninstall it remove the folder, then reinstall it.
If that does not help then try one of the other free ones.

Download and install this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup!
Don't run it yet. Alternate download link.
It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders.
You will also regain a massive amount of disk space.
Here is a tutorial which describes its usage.

Went back to Zone Alarm 5.5 and everything is a lot better. I thought maybe something got in while I was upgrading ZA. After a visit to there forum I see I'm not the only one with problems. Thanks again Eagle. :D
