Hi folks - first post for me, and I sincerely hope you can help me out!
I'm not very good with PC techie stuff, so you may have to bear with me.
For some reason, IE doesn't open, and I get this message:
———–
Microsoft visual C++ Runtime library
Runtime Error!
Program c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way
———–

I've run Spybot with no success, and was about to update my anti-virus software (sincerely!), but something has beaten me to it.

Here's my HJT log:

Please don't berate me regarding whatever junk you find in there!! :( - I just want to get the ball rolling so I can have a clean PC…I'll try to be good, but just need to know how to protect myself!

Many, many thanks in anticipation! :D
Hi alginatedragonfly, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. A search for information about that issue:
Microsoft visual C++ Runtime library
Runtime Error!
Program c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe
Returns a lot of information about the error message. Take a look at this thread:
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52580
I use the the toolbar myself and I am experiencing no issues, but the suggestions in the link may work for you, and you may want to contact Google support for help. Maybe this is it: http://www.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=3178

I want to take a moment to ask about the Logitech\Desktop Messenger that is filling the log with 018 lines. Sometimes it seems to not work well with HJT? Most folks wind up with this item as a result of downloading it bundled with another Logitech product, like a mouse or a webcamera and don't even know they downloaded this item also. If this is the case, you can probably remove it in Add Remove Programs. If not delete it here:
C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BWPlugProtocol-8876480.dll
Removing it should not effect the Logitech product you need.

Taking a look at your HJT log, I don't see much else.
This is a resource waster that aol installs usually without the users knowledge, I suggest removing it:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe and these two are adware:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDCM] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\DDCManager\DDCMan.exe" -Background
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDCActiveMenu] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\ActiveMenu\DDCActiveMenu.exe" -boot
see this: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-859.html

My suggestion is then to remove Logitech Messenger, you can check the 018 items in HJT if you wish but I think once the item is removed a reboot will clear those items, and that you do this:

Look in Add Remove programs and uninstall Viewpoint.
If WildTangent is there uninstall it also.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDCM] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\DDCManager\DDCMan.exe" -Background
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDCActiveMenu] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\ActiveMenu\DDCActiveMenu.exe" -boot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ >>> folder

C:\Program Files\WildTangent\ >>> folder

I suggest a good cleaning and this utility will do just that, follow the directions:
Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

When you are finished, post a new HJT log for a final look, I'll have some great information to keep you clean and safe.

Thanks…pskelley

Pskelley –I tried removing Google - and hey presto…back in business! Thanks sooo much for your help…bit scary that a plug-in can do this to IE though :( Will go through your post and do other things you've mentioned over the next week. Thanks again buddy! :D
Yes, that surprises me also. I have used Google for a long while and it is rare you hear of a problem. The only problem I have is I don't have any of their stock :( I am looking for information about the issue and will post if I find anything. Here is a link to the help center, perhaps you will spot something there you can use: http://www.google.com/support
