Hi, I have been helped here once before so I am trying again but I dont remember how to get the logs and fix stuff. Please help. I am running Windows XP Media Center addition. I have NAV updated, Spyware Guard enabled, Trojan Hunter enabled (all of these I think I have since the last time you guys helped me), Adaware SE, Spybot. All updated but Spybot finds some new stuff it didnt before. I fix the problems but I have the same problem. There is one registry change thing. My computer is on cable modem, w/ Zone Alarm firewall and it keeps dropping off the server saying it cant find the IP address. I will fix it by either shutting down or removing the modem plug for 2 minutes and restarting. It never did this before. So I ran all my scans and then I wanted to run a complete NAV scan in safe mode b/c I got this morning a popup saying LSA Shell (export version) wanted access to be a server?? It had windows\system32\lsass.exe as the thing wanting access. When I did the windows instructions for starting in safe mode (msconfig, choose SafeBoot and restart) it gives me a popup saying you are using system config. I say OK or I cancel it, either way, it goes straight to the regular start up. So I tried the F8 tapping thing and chose Safe Mode, I chose Windows XPMedia Center and whenI did that a screen came up saying it Cant Start in Safe Mode. "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt. Please reinstall. \system32\hal.dll Please someone help me. I have no idea if this is bad or whether I have a problem. I keep getting alerts from email from one particular person and they come everyday. I am not sure what to do. I am a TOTAL NOVICE so please be as specific as possible. Thanks in advance. Candyjems
Its me again. HELP. I just tried to update Spybot to the 1.4 addition and while extracting the files and error box comes up saying. Error occurred while trying to replace the existing file. DeleteFile failed; code 5. Access is denied. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??? Thanks
Hi,
My computer connection keeps dropping. Cant repair IP address w/ windows repair button. Tried to upgrade Spybot to 1.4 wont let me.Cant replace an existing file. Cant get into safe mode. Spybot 1.3 keeps finding in RED
WindowsSecurityCenter.AntiVirusDisableNotify
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Sec…. cant see the rest. Says it is a Registry Change. I get rid of it but it keeps coming back.

Here is the HJT Log.

I merged the threads to this one. Candyjems, please hit "AddReply" or "PostReply" (depends on which forum skin you're using) instead of "New Topic" or "New Thread". Thank you :)

Is this the same computer as the one you mentioned here:
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?act=ST&f=27&t=44683

If so, please just open one thread as duplicates only complicate the issue of trying to help you.

Can you please post a HJT log and I will look to see if we can do anything.

Hi,

Sorry about the posts. Obviously I am a novice. I guess b/c I kept getting different or additional problems each time, I thought I needed a new thread. I'll try to contain it here. Basically, my internet connection drops (TimeWarner cable) either after using certain programs or sites, i.e. MusicMatch, Itunes, Media center, etc. or if I havent used the machine for awhile but it was still on, then when I get back to it, it cant find the server and I have to shut down (restarting doesnt help) and begin again. I just did a new HJT log. I cant upgrade to the other Spybot, I think. I am not sure even what is going on, except everything takes a long time or else it crashes and I have to start over. Thanks for any help you can give me.

REBOOT

Step # 3

Then do a virus scan here >>> Trend Micro

Step # 4

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
Thanks for responding. I am not sure what to do now or if I should follow your instructions. The roadrunner cable guy came today and noticed that some digital tv guy split my connection when he should have put an amplifier, or something like that, on to my cable line and thats why my connection was dropping. This he said should improve my signal strength. I would like to test it out for awhile before I start changing things. It seems a lot better right now.

Could you just tell me if you thought there was anything suspicious about my HJT log or are you just trying to clear things up a bit?

Thanks
candyjems

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I did what you said and I will list the logs below. I just want to add that the computer is not dropping the internet connection too much anymore, but if I leave it on and leave for a few hours and come back, it tries to find the server and then just says cant display page. The cable modem is still blinking that it is connected so I dont know what that is about. Do you?? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I have WinXP Media Center addition. So when I go to safe mode it says something like …..cant start…missing some root 32 file.. (sorry for the lack of specifics). But it will let me go to safe mode in just the default WinXP. Is that a problem that some file is missing?

Also, when the computer is starting up, it takes a much longer time for zonealarm to start up than it used to. Could this be spyware or something slowing it down??

Well, here are the logs::

Thanks in advance…
